a us tour would net about the same as it did in '06.
let's face it - gnr has been playing primarily to the diehards since '02.

these people will go this time around in order to see 6-8 cd songs.

unless the promoter lost money in '06 we will see another us arena tour (if they tour the us)

I am not sure Live Nation would book them again in the states...questionable profit margins backed by recent animosity with Azoff. It would be a mistake to do another US Tour without some new product on the shelf and without a large marketing push by the band. hmm

I forgot about that, but Madagas is right. GN'R don't have exactly the best relationship with promoters here in the states. They were deemed a risky venture due to potential no shows, and riots years ago. Clear Channel didn't dick around with Axl in 2002, and basically just pulled the plug when they got a sniff it was going downhill.

And of course Axl's relationship with Live Nation and Azoff. A new album would be about the only thing I could imagine that could possibly be used as a bargaining chip to gain interest in a new states tour.

Short of that, they're gonna demand reunion or fuck off.

I personally think GN'R will just skip the states, short of maybe doing some club shows in LA & NYC. Axl's not gonna allow his hand to be forced on anything he doesn't want to do.

I don't really think it was forced in the traditional since. Despite the leaks, had Azoff not brokered that deal with Best Buy, and possibly Wal-Mart, Axl would've probably still held out and not released the record. Even Eddie Trunk said early on in 2008 he was hearing that they were trying to shop the record around and see if anyone would buy it, because of the enormous debt they were still in, plus I think Axl laid down like $4-5 million of his own money to continue production from 2005-2008.

Axl's hand wasn't really forced. He saw the absolute best deal possible that would allow him to break even and he took it so it'd clear his debt with Universal.

I dont think Axl spent that much on music production, but I have suspected from the start of this tour that he might have funded the live production himself. Judging from Universal and Interscope's handling of the album its obvious they phoned it in with an almost determined lack of interest, the booklet is testament to that. The live production is huge and Axl admitted when they started out they didnt even have a manager, I really wouldnt be suprised if he was one of the main players in putting it all together.
It could also explain all these "private shows" - they are out earning the best wage they can.

It's probable. Ron's guitar parts could've been as early as 2004, and Frank's drums - who knows? We don't really know the exact time he entered the fold.

Most of the stuff that made CD seems like it was recorded awhile ago, even the additions by Chris.

Universal supposedly cut him off from anymore funds in 2005, until they got the album. But at that point, unless Axl was recording all-new tracks, that are still in the vault, I don't really know how much more extra money and recording time he needed. He'd been in the studio off and on since 1998.

It very well could've been the live show orchestration. I don't know if it was Axl's camp or Merck's that had that horrendous U.S. dates during the Fall 2006 U.S. tour, when they were doing more shows out in the swamps and sticks - in the middle of nowhere - than shows in big cities.

It reaked of amateurism.

for what its worth...when i talked to Del James breifly back in January it sounded to me like they had no part in booking the venues and sequence of shows

And I believe Ron when he said that he was approached by Chris in 2004 but wasnt brought on board until just before the tour started in 2006, and laid some tracks down as the tour progressed..but maybe its just me

Ron's parts were 100% done in 2006/early 2007. Funds were cut off by Uni in early 2004 around the time of the Greatest Hits lawsuit. SIC, where are you....?

when exactly was doc brought on board & was it he who helped book the dates - at least the european tour?? it is strange trying to figure out just who runs things like the schedule/booking tours in GnR..

defo think u'r otm re: ron's involvement. think it was as madagas says late 06 early 07 recording.
