I might try to grab my cousin one of these days and record something. I haven't been in a band in a LONG TIME, but from what I hear recorded back from singing in the car, i'm still in shape.

It's a shame Axl won't license more old GN'R shit for Rock Band downloads. That's be a quick and simple, no fuss, way to just weed out the good Axl impersonators from the bad ones.

My issue is i've always felt no one can quite get that rasp down that Axl has. They just shriek in a high pitch (Myles cough cough), and to truely duplicate Axl you have to master that rasp, THEN attempt the high pitch.

Frankly it takes years of fine honing, at least from my experience and what i've seen. Guys like the UK Axl seem to get better over time.

When I first started trying to sing along note-for-note like Axl, I sounded like 2002 helium Axl. I always found it to be a mastery of mixing Axl with Brian Johnson, but actually singing, not screaming like Johnson. It's still hard as fuckin' hell on the vocals. Somedays it's fucked up like Axl's does, but when it settles, it's effortless.

Yep, it's very difficult. The thing about hiring an imitator is that you can't replicate his decisions in the studio. It's not just about whether the person can imitate the classics, it's also about whether they can elevate the sound of newly recorded stuff. That's the same problem Axl has run into with his cover band. They can play the classics very well but they haven't brought much to the studio for him.

There is one guy on this planet that OWNS the Axl voice, speeches, moves, everything... His band is called "Appetite for Destruction", he is fucking awesome.

No one can really sing like Axl. It's the main thing that makes him so unique, and no I don't need to hear a bunch of tribute bands(no offense Gav).

I know its blasphemy on these sites, but that voice is why I want outside songwriters brought in. He's obviously not prolific and if he has a bit of trouble in the writing department as he ages, just let someone else do it. I'd like to hear him sing new songs even if Pee Wee Herman has to write them.

The UK guy is better than the AFD guy. Better singer and in better shape. Better at the moves as well. That SCOM clip you posted is pretty awful. Now this is damn good:

I wouldn't be opposed to it as long as the writing is good of course. The man very clearly still has the fucking pipes as evidenced by some of the recent bootlegs of the likes of Patience, Don't Cry, etc. where he's not running around and losing his breath. Hell, he still sings his ass off on the rockers too. I'm amazed he still has his voice at this point. To say he took poor care of it when he was in his prime is an understatement.

To be completely honest the tone is off on both. The first guy seems to be a bit better at the rasp. I don't know if it's their accents that might be in play or like we were saying and James reinterated - nobody is Axl but Axl.

Tribute bands... God bless those guys. I just guess it's an acquired taste, or you have to be able to laugh at and have fun at yourself when you know you're being satirical of a legendary band. Parody is the sincerest form of flattery, right?

I would much rather sing in the spirit of Axl on all-new, totally original songs with my own image tho. jmo

To those who disagree - keep rockin' all of ya's. 9
