Only way a 2010 GN'R U.S. leg works, without an album or old members appearing, is if they keep themselves relegated to theaters/amphitheaters.

BS, a US tour will work regardless of what they do, only problem is it wont be as profitable.

If it's not profitable, then it didn't work.

Jeezus...

Surely they can sell out arenas in the US, if they keep to the largest cities. Then the diehards who really want go, can do so. Will likely be sold out due to average rockfans' curiosity!

If they do wanna do something in the US, they just gotta get rollin'...

Maybe Naltav. We all know it's possible, but even in 2006, I don't think MSG sold out 'til the very last day.

And that's New York City - their biggest possible turnout in the U.S.

If they wanna do areanas in the U.S. they are gonna need SOME-THING to promote, and they're also gonna need to do the rounds on TV too.

Ok, say arenas are too big.

What's the harm in doing theaters in the major cities?

Sure, we have all had the dream of GNR once again ruling the world.

Even if they released PartII of ChiDem with numerous songs with "hit-potential", it would take a lot promoting and Axl selling out and whoring himself to the media or singing the national anthem at some baseball-game in order to wake up the average "stupid American" and shock the american musicindustry out of its RnB-hiphop-country-music oriented daze that have plagued that market for far to long...

What are the odds of all those things happening?

So maybe a small theater-tour is all the US-market is ready to swallow at this point.

Sure, some reunion friendly forummembers on the boards would be extatic and padding themselvs on the shoulder saying: "See? I told you, they are floppin! They are getting nowhere without Slash!"
roll

I just hope they get rollin', no matter what type of venue or success, so that you guys from the US can get your fix!

they will play arenas if they ever do the states imo....why sell out in 3,000 seat theatres if they can sell 6-7,000 in a 10,000 seat arena?

That's my belief as well.  I mean sure they'd like to sell out and break all sorts or attendance records, but all that really matters is the bottom line.  And if you CAN sell an extra 4K tickets per night playing arenas, even if the arena is only half full, why not do it?  Now I don't know the cost of pulling off an arena show compared to a theater show, and I doubt anyone does.  I'd assume it costs more for an arena show, but is it enough to make it non-profitable?  I don't know the answer.  I wouldn't think so.  But maybe that's a reason they aren't touring the US now?  Maybe they're trying to figure out how to tour in the US in a more profitable fashion?  It's possible.  But overall I agree with Neemo, if you can sell more tickets in an arena, you might as well.

I have nothing wrong with theaters, as a matter of fact - I prefer them.

Imagine this... GN'R announce a U.S. "stripped" theater tour. Axl and the gang grab a stool and get on stage for a full "acoustic" set each night.

The best show gets released on DVD/CD. 9

Take away the running around and Axl's voice is as good as it's ever been. Put him on a stool for an entire show and you can get an incredible performance. Would be great to get it in high quality on Blu-ray/CD with lossless audio.

well stools is a bit too much, bit too westlife/bit too old-man-needs-2-sit-down-2-get-thru-gig but certainly a 15-20 stop trip thru usa playing those club/private/acoustic gigs.
but even that, even doing a handful of those gigs would be like an open admission they can't draw a big crowd anymore, so whatever the result of smaller gigs it would reflect badly on them really. badly if u care about that sorta thing, of course.
