Re: Steven Adler on Eddie Trunk
I'm listening now (Sirius/XM - The Boneyard). I'm taping it, so I'm a little behind. He's not on yet (at least from what I've listened to). Pretty cool though, Eddie played "Beat Up" off of Izzy's new CD, then he played "Better", and "Crucify The Dead".
I'll try and update anything interesting that Steven has to offer.
After "Crucify The Dead" he talked a little bit about how Ozzy said in an interview that was his take on Axl screwing up a good thing with GNR, but then retracting those comments somewhat. He also mentioned how great Slash's solo disc/tour was and how he would most likely be an upcoming guest on "That Metal Show".
It's pretty much the same things over and over that Steven always says. Heavy on the "I want a GNR reunion" talk. I'll never understand the way he goes about things though. I mean, I guess he speaks his mind and won't sugar coat anything. But one minute he's praising Axl, saying he loves all the guys in original Guns, then he's saying nobody wants to see Axl playing with the guys he's playing with now. Not that what he's saying is wrong, he certainly is entitled to that stance. But I just don't think that will help his cause with championing a GNR reunion.
Eddie got in a friendly argument with Steven comparing Kiss to GNR in their current states after Steven saying that Axl should call his current band W.A.R. Eddie said it was all about branding, and if it's alright for Kiss to do it, why shouldn't it be for Axl. Steven said he went to see GNR in Vegas and that they had 4 guitarists who all looked like Izzy and he wondered what the F' he was looking at. He also said that Kiss could still sell out places, while current Guns played to barely 1000 people at The Joint, and the floor was nearly empty. He said that if you see them playing in front of large crowds, that it was only because they were playing festivals with 10 other bands.
Eddie seemed to be saying that at least GNR wasn't going the Kiss route and having guys actually "play the role" of former members. And Steven said that they could get away with it, because they kicked ass. Pretty much saying, he doesn't respect any of the current members in GNR. Obviously he's still a little bitter, when he has such a different stance on 2 similar situations.
Re: Steven Adler on Eddie Trunk
Wait, Did I miss another new Izzy album coming out?
I don't know how "new" it is, but Eddie intro'd the song as off his new album. I don't follow Izzy all that close. I wasn't too impressed with the song either. Looks like it was released via the internet over the summer.
Re: Steven Adler on Eddie Trunk
I actually found it on itunes and downloaded it right after I typed that. So thanks for posting this story, if nothing else just for that, because I had no idea. I haven't listened because Bears/Packers is on, and I have to get ready to go back to work tomorrow after a vacation.
On topic, Adler seems to have waaayy too much respect for Kiss.

Yeah, Eddie is a HUGE Kiss fan, but is not on board with what they're doing these days. He thinks it's ridiculous that they have guys playing the roles of Ace and Peter. He says they play fine and has nothing against them, but can't respect the way they're going about things. He also tried to correct Steven and said that while Kiss was doing well these days, they weren't "selling out" places with any consistency. He also said that he didn't disagree with Steven but the fact is that there are enough people that would go see Kiss or GNR regardless of who was in the band. Saying, lots of people who go to concerts aren't the diehards and couldn't tell you who was in the band anyway. They just go to hear the songs they know and love. And as long as that's the case, it remains profitable.

That's something I find refreshing about Adler though. Like he's straight down the line and on the level, and he's not sucking up just to get back in with Axl, even though as you say his talk probably hinders his cause.
I feel sorry for him really, I mean appart from the insanity of being thrown out of GNR by Slash and Izzy for drug use....and of course everything that followed that.....imagine the frustration he must feel - he wants to complete what he started with GNR - but no one else seems to. It's got to be annoying.
Re: Steven Adler on Eddie Trunk
Yeah, Steven knows he's gonna have to go back to it and finish it with dignity if he's ever gonna have closure on that turbulent time in his life and the fact that he's never forgiven himself for fucking up so bad.
He can beg Slash all he wants.... there's only one man who can make that happen. And the thing is it's not gonna work just subbing Steven on a few songs over Frank. It's gonna need all the original guys, and at this point Christ coming back seems to be a more likely proposition.
I also feel that without this Steven will once again succumb to his past without it. He already lost his youth for letting it consume him, he just doesn't want to let it take his life right now it seems.
Re: Steven Adler on Eddie Trunk
Steven also said he wants to put a band together with Slash, regardless of a GNR reunion. It must kill him that Sorum is in with Duff and Slash these days. And how Slash didn't consider him for his solo band.
Steven never gives up hope though.

Re: Steven Adler on Eddie Trunk
Yeah I was thinking for steven the tough bit must be VR.
I mean watching Slash and Duff (and for a short time izzy) start a new band without Axl and they don't call him up. It's got to hurt.
At least he got a bonus track on the solo record.
I dunno i mean people talk shit about adler, he may be a junkie and whatever else but he was a kid who grew up wanting to be in a famous band, and he fucking did that, and then he lost control and it all fucked up - and now he lives in a world where he wants to go back - but there's so much politics in the way....it must be so hard....to be honest if I was him - i'm not sure I could take it.
