There will never be a good timing taking Slash back, because Axl will never think of taking him back. It's a dead horse, and the sooner everyone gets that, the better. It's like discussing Planet X. It doesn't exist, but yet people still think it does.

ya know i think as a whole it would be tre cool to think of what we do have in GnR land as opposed to what we dont have

i think for years that we got in a mode where we got nothing so the tendancy was to harp on that.

but now that we have something its too bad that we cant be hopeful on current and future happenings sad

It sounds from some of you that Slash invented rock n roll guitarism or something. He clearly picked up plenty from Joe Perry, so it's like the chicken or the egg.

And Page, he ripped off alot of his riffs too.

I mean we could go on with that. Through Chuck Berry to the unknown black blues guitarists in the south that the Stones ripped off.

It's not about that. It's just about good music, and who brings it to the audience. But to pick on DJ? Come on, the cat is doing EXACTLY what he should be doing. You wanna pick on someone, pick on Axl.

DJ appears to be doing a fine job on stage and he certainly looks like he interacts with the crowd a lot more than say Finck did.

But I don't think you can be surprised about some of the comparisons. Did Slash invent the rock n roll guitarisms as DCK put it - certainly not, you would be a fool to think he did.

But imagine for a moment that you replaced say Angus Young in ACDC.  And as part of your stage craft you decide to do that one legged hop forward that he is well known for.  Did Angus create that - probably not.  If I did it as a replacment guitarist (even if I had been doing it for years prior to that), am I going to get the comparisons made that I am ripping Angus off - YES!

Now, imagine also if even before joining ACDC I played a Gibson SG and part of my act was to perform with a school uniform on.  Do you think I am going to get a new ass ripped by some fans for that even though I wore it well before I joined ACDC?

That's all I'm saying, is you can't be surprised that some people think he is very Slash like.  If it was me that would be something I would be pretty conscious of, obviously DJ doesn't care so good luck to him.  It's a tough spot to find himself in though coz obviously he wants to be who he was before joining Guns, but by doing that IMO he is bound to cop some flak.

But then take Ron as a different example, I think he is rock n roll but he doesn't remind me of anybody but Ron.

As another line of thought, imagine if Scott Weiland did that snake dance/sway while singing in VR.  Don't you think the Axlites would jump all over him?  But I could come in here and say "sounds like some of you think Axl invented Frontman stage craft or something.  He clearly picked it up from the frontman of Shark Island..."

well if u wanna play that game slash really ripped off rory gallagher.
and just ftr, rory gallagher is the greatest guitarist ever. admittedly only about this much greater than jimi, but greater nonetheless.

Angus Young's moves and outfit are a little more legendary and well known than Slash's.  At least the moves.  Granted, you could argue DJ is trying to look like Slash with the hat, but again I think that's much more Mick Mars than Slash.

I get what you're saying, how people may perceive things.  They see a guitarist onstage playing in GNR that's NOT Slash, wearing a hat somewhat like what Slash used to wear.  I can see where people would think, "what a poser".  I don't think that's the case, but whatever.  That's his style.  Whether he borrowed it from Slash, Mick Mars, a mix of many guitarists he looked up to.  He carries himself pretty well, so more power to him.
