I think we all can agree that AFD sounds dated because of the production. There was a huge step production wise in the late 80s-early 90s that makes all the previous '80s stuff sound a bit 'dated'. I love AFD, it's the best album ever for me, but with today's technique, it'd be even better, cause the production would avoid the too messy guitar sound, the bit 80s bass sound, the already pointed-out drum sound and Axl's sometimes too high vocals. With everything said it's the best album ever, but the production is not 90s or 00s quality.

I like albums with warts....screw the production. I just don't like that Axl tried to make Chinese too "perfect". Listen to the CITR from Paris...record the fucker like that and it's a tremendous song.

Hang in there another 10 years or so.  18

Who knows how long it will take for new music to come, if EVER.  But I don't think we're anywhere close.  Unless they're keeping things real tight lipped this time around, there's no evidence they've been working on anything new and with all the problems there were in getting CD out, I don't imagine releasing the rest of the material in the vault would be a walk in the park either.

I don't listen to AFD anymore either but like Bri said, doesn't mean your opinion of the album is required to change just because its not in your cd player/Ipod. I still consider it the greatest album ever made. I just don't listen to it.

Faldor, russ,etc....

I don't think anyone is crucifying you for preferring CD over other albums. It's that revisionist history thing and basing opinions/tastes on that, NOT someone just generally preferring one album over the other. Bono makes a good, general point regarding forum  junkies though. A lot of people try to justify the new by bashing the old when in reality its two separate entities.

Mikka, nothing in the 21st century could improve the sound of AFD. Its flawless as is and will never need improvement. Cant believe you'd want the bass changed. One of the best things about that album in my opinion.

To be fair, people do the same exact things in the opposite direction.  Whether it be Robin fans slamming DJ (no offense Russ), Slash fans slamming Robin, Buckethead fans slamming Ron.  It works both ways.

Are you insinuating that Bucket fans are biased? tongue
