Oh, I didn't know he was a #1 pick. But I think the hope is that 7-10+ years from now, $10 mill/season isn't alot of money, so at that time down the road it'll seem like a bargain.
Of course, the problem is if these players do live up to and axceed expectation, they can always hold out to renegotiate their salary. So it doesn't reeally benefit the owners much.

Is that in the CBA? I just thought they were locked into the contracts. I remember when Cashin Yashin sat out a few years ago for more money. He hasn't played the same since. Lindros and Peca did the same thing.

Well, both sides have players missing that I think should be there, but really, who can we take off? I'd like to see Malkin and Kovalev added as forwards in the east. Maybe take away Richards and Gomez. Since we're taking them off, we need to add another player from the Rangers. I'd put in Lundqvist for Vokoun. After that, we need to add a player for Florida, so why not sub in Bouwmeester for Gonchar. Sure, there are other guys who should be there (Brad Richards, Mats Sundin, Brendan Shanahan), but there's no one else I think is worthy of coming off.
As for the west, I'd like to see the other sister (Daniel Sedin) added. He and Henrik would make some magic there. Too many players are just tokens on both sides. It's crap that all teams need to have at least one representative. I mean Shawn Horcoff??? Take him out and put Sam Gagner (as another Oiler). Take out Duncan Keith and put another AHLer in there.

Sabres have lost 9 in a row. Very saddening. Pucks just aren't going in.

Not to make excuses, and to underestimate how this streak has damaged their playoff chances, but look at the schedule. 3 games versus the best team in the East, 3 games versus the second best team in the East. 5 shootout losses, 4 with Miller in net, and all of Miller's shootouts he's given up 2 of 3 to the opponent. Thibault did much better in the shootout against Ottawa. This 0-4-5 streak is a few shots from being a decent 5-4, and it's very sad to see the way these games have gone. On the upside, that's probably the hardest stretch of schedule they have this year. Home on Friday, and then a 7 game road trip. Hmmm. Playoffs may be a crazy deam.

thats tough....leafs have lost 5 in a row too so at least buffalo isnt in danger of being last in the division
Did you see Paul Maurice's post game interview? He was literally on the verge of tears. You can't help but feel sorry for the guy. He's a great coach who will end up being JFJ's scapegoat.

If the Maple Leafs' tailspin and calls for the firing of general manager John Ferguson Jr. weren't bad enough in Toronto, the team's fans got another punch in the gut from an interview with Scotty Bowman on Saturday night.
The Hall of Fame coach told Hockey Night In Canada that he was close to taking the job as the team's president last summer, only to be turned away later.
"I had good meetings with Toronto," Bowman explained on the program's pre-game show.
"I had a very strong meeting with (Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Chairman) Larry Tanenbaum one day in mid-August. I was getting very interested and then he said he wanted me to meet (MLSE President and CEO) Richard Peddie and I met Richard for an hour a week later."
Bowman said Peddie told him later that they had decided to keep things status quo because it was three weeks before training camp.
Bowman, who won a combined nine Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings, wanted full control over the team's hockey operations."I had pretty well put my cards on the table with Toronto that for me to come in it would have to be like a Bryan Colangelo type of deal," said Bowman.
Colangelo, hired by MLSE's Toronto Raptors in 2006, has full autonomy over the operation of the NBA team.
"I said the only way it's going to work for me would be a Bryan Colangelo situation," Bowman added. "I think they might have been concerned about how much time I was going to be able to spend, but I spend all my living time in hockey. Even though I'm not behind the bench, I'm still 24-7 and I enjoy it."
Bowman, who previously stated that he had spoken with the Leafs but wasn't interested in the job, did not make any commitment to decision if the team approached him again.
"That's a pretty tough question to answer right now because you're asking something that's real hypothetical," he told Hockey Night In Canada. "It would be awful tough to leave Detroit (where he is a consultant) right now. That's where I want to win. We'll cross that bridge if we get to it, though."
i'll tell you right now that Bowman didnt get the job cuz the owners have their hands in the pie and didnt want to give up the right as to who is allowed to play in toronto and who isnt....thats why the leafs will never win a cup under the present circumstances, they have to decide if they want to win or not

flames signed CuJo to a one year $1.5 million contract
He was needed there, that's for sure. Kipper's not having a fantastic year and they didn't have a backup goalie. This should take some of the pressure off.
Still waiting for the shit storm in Toronto. Apparently, they've asked Cliff Fletcher to return as interim GM, meaning that they're getting ready to can Ferguson. I think it's soon going to be a fire sale there. Sundin, Tucker, McCabe, Kubina, Raycroft, and just about everyone else will be headed to other teams. Sundin's a big possibility as a rental player, because I can see him wanting to return as a free agent in the offseason. But Toronto needs to do something right away to shake up the team. What are the owners waiting for?
