Re: MATT SORUM Talks DARLING STILETTOS, Future Of VELVET REVOLVER

I hope to Christ the prospective singer isn't Myles Kennedy. Can't be bothered to learn the lyrics to the old songs, has the weirdest singing voice I've ever heard, no stage presence, and he looks like Jim Carrey.

In a right and just world, Chester Bennington would get the gig; he's got a similar stage presence to Scott, but he's got Axl's pipes.

Corey won't do it and no way in hell Chester bennington could even be considered a singer.
They'l end up with some random guy no one cares about

Ouch that's a bit rough! I think he messed up a line in Civil War a few times, but it's not really much worse than that is it? I also disagree about the stage presence, i'll grant he doesn't have axl's intensity (you know that vibe you get from Axl that he's right on the edge always) but I thought from up front he looks cool and is pretty watchable. I liked his songs on slash's album, I'd be interested to see what he did with a heavier riff though.

He hasn't managed to get the lyrics to Civil War right *once*. He also has a tendency to fuck up the old VR tracks - where Scott would deliberately tweak a line so it reads differently in the second chorus than in the first, Myles just sings the original version twice. If that makes any sense.

I dunno, it just feels lazy to me. There's a reason those lyrics were written like that, and it feels like Myles is just singing them from memory, like he's doing karaoke or something.

And yeah, he doesn't have the stage presence of Axl or Scott. It's like he's seen rockstars doing this shit on TV and he knows you're meant to flail around with the mic stand or whatever, but it always seems a bit forced.

I mean, I'm sure he's a nice guy and all, Slash picked him and he's a better singer than I'll ever be, so who am I to criticise? It's just... well, I can see why Duff nixed the idea of him fronting VR.

That said, I'd imagine the two singers in the running are Myles and Franky Perez. Corey Taylor would be a good pick, though I still maintain that the best person for the gig would be Chester Bennington, not that he'll do it...

That song, Mutherfucka, or what it's called, really makes me hopeful about the prospect of another VR record. That had a killer riff, better than anything on Libertad. Fuck Scott, he nixed the 2 best songs off that album. 3

Wow didnt realise Matt was that bad. Yeah your right they dont seem to play much from the UYI albums. It is almost all AFD & Lies. I look at Matt a bit more differently now

Matt is a dick, but more importantly his drumming didn't fit very well with the sound of the band. Say what you want about Adler's personal problems, but the guy's work on Appetite fit perfectly with Slash/Izzy/Duff. The shitty thing of course is most of the bootlegs that are even around at this point from back in the day are from the UYI era, which means putting up with Matt's lousy drumming on AFD songs.

Matt's drumming was fine on the tracks, but he wasn't Steven.

What I didn't like was his drummer-arrogance on songs. He always had to add an extra beat, or something unneccessary to the songs, specifically UYI, like he was initially trying to make his little piss mark on a song, that was entirely unnecessary.

Everytime I hear the very end of Coma or Estranged I just roll my eyes and groan at that extra drum beat that was absolutely unnecessary and frankly distracting at the end of a great song.

Never understood for the life of me why Slash & Duff didn't completely give him the boot, along with Axl, after Sympathy For The Devil. Maybe because for as much of a dick as Matt was, he would still go out to strip clubs and do coke with Slash & Duff.

To Matts credit UYI +tour were good. Steven was  to far out of his mind to record or play live. Slash said GnR could not play with riffs like Momma said and many others. He made it sound like Stevens style limited the rest of the band

Dont get me wrong YAY for him being part of Appetite and Lies! and yeh that story about Matt is harsh! BUt what does that say about the chicks involved? Trashy is it is for all involved they had a choice.
