Re: Stinson Vents at Del James During Dublin Concert
DCK wrote:So you are saying people spend money on tickets for a show just to protest against the line up?`
No.
They are throwing shit because they are assholes.
They boo because they have a point. He's always late.
This.
Anyone who thinks people are booing and throwing stuff because they want a reunion is really, really reaching.
Yup I agree. The booing, fair enough they turned up late. If you made plans to go somewhere with a friend and they turn up over half an hour late with no explanation, you'd call them on it too, you wouldn't smash them upside the head with a bottle of piss though
Re: Stinson Vents at Del James During Dublin Concert
This difference is, Slash & Duff won't give a fuck that Axl's late. They got their own shit to deal with.
Not sure how the crowd would like it, but I could easily see those guys saying screw Axl, and performing as Guns N' Roses with Izzy & Duff, because Axl's 30 minutes late, and they won't have a single problem in the world doing it.
The problem with the new band, is they hold no cards. Short of maybe Tommy, these guys know that Axl calls all shots, because he's the boss. If they protest it, then they'll be replaced. So they don't shake the apple cart too much.
But even still with what i've said, there's so much drama surrounding Axl at any given moment, that's the reason I have huge doubts that a reunion will ever happen. Not because of money, not because of him performing with Slash, but because he's a fucking loon, and the new band is STARTING to tire of it, the old band was over it 20 fucking years ago. They'll have zero tolarance.
There's a good chance that bad boy will implode within a few shows.
I don't think the crowd would take too kindly going to a GNR reunion show and having Axl not show up. Sitting and watching Slash, choose your drummer, with Izzy and Duff sharing vocals. And if they did go on early and Axl joined them 30 minutes later. Well that's just silly to think anything like that could ever happen.
Like I said before, a reunion seems so highly unlikely now it's almost inconceivable.
Re: Stinson Vents at Del James During Dublin Concert
I think it's so silly, because IT WOULD HAPPEN. No fucking shit man. They did it to Weiland with VR, and they actually did it a couple times years ago to Axl when they were first starting out.
I just think Slash, Izzy & Duff would have NO tolarance to Axl's antics. They would have an attitude of "fine, fuck him, we'll do the show without him". The difference between Axl & Slash tho, is Slash would walk right fucking out there and tell the 40,000 people in attendence EXACTLY what is happening, why it's happening, and who to blame, then ask them, "do you want to see us play? Because we're here". I could easily see a situation like that happening.
And like you said, the concept of that is such a clusterfuck, that the prospect of a reunion seems further and further away the crazier Axl gets with each passing year. At this point, i'm ready to jump ship for the Myles/Slash and maybe a couple other Gunners experiment at this point.
I have this feeling in the pit of my gut that when the train finally comes to a stop on this Guns N' Roses, it's done - forever.

Of course the fans in attendence wouldn't be happy with it but would the fans around the world ever be happy. In fact I dare say the fans at the show would appreciate it once the dissapointment dissapeard a bit. To be honest in the end I think the fan reaction would be positive. Axl wouldn't dare let that happen. It would only take one show for the entire fanbase to turn on Axl and give up. The old guys showing to the fans and to everyone else that it DOES matter to go on stage on time. It would just solidy the fact that Axl is a prima donna who intentionally goes on late. Imagine Axl tryingt o formulate an excuse if a scenario like this played out.
Re: Stinson Vents at Del James During Dublin Concert
When has Slash ever walked out on stage and told a crowd what the deal is, even in Velevet Revolver when Scott's going on late was his biggest issue with him? Never. You can pretty much write off Duff and Izzy from ever doing another GNR stint outside a one off show. Slash would put up with Axl's crap. And then complain about it later when things fell apart.
But it's not going to happen.

Funny I was just thinking about the line from locomotive earlier. "You can use you illusion let it take you where it may well live and learn and then sometimes it's best to walk away. Me I'm just here hanging on it's my only place to stay, at least for, now anyway. I've worked too hard for my illusions just to throw them all away"
Slash duff Bucket Robin, lived and learned and walked away.
Axl's still clinging to the illusion. Worked pretty hard for it too you. Can you just throw away 14 years of work? But he really needs to if he's to mve forward with this new band.
Funny that he knew all this back in '91.
Kind of a self fulfilling prophecy.
I can't re-read that lyric without hearing it in Axl's voice.

Re: Stinson Vents at Del James During Dublin Concert
I think people throw things because they are mindless gimps who think Axl is a dick, and want to prove it by provoking him into canceling the gig.
I think people were booing mostly because they knew previous shows had been cut short and their own venue was at risk because of transport.
But that said. I also think the absense of slash should not be discounted as a contributing factor in anything negative that happens.
Bottom line is there's always been drama going to see GNR. It's the price of admission, only question is, does the pay off you get when they play pay for the chance of a riot, late start and so on.
I think most people want slash, people who go to the show, go for axl DESPITE slash not being there. But it's still in the back of their minds, and if enough bullshit goes down it can be an issue.
They walkin thinking "Axl is wierd, he took 15 years for an album, he is the only member left and owns the name, he hates slash who we like and won't work with him, the media says he walked off stage before and starts riots, the media says he was sleeping during showtime - blah blah" they're already thinking that shit....so like when Axl is late - even for a legit reason - they have a preset idea that he's an asshole or a primadona. So i guess like people would be still mad if he came on late with slash - but that it's just him with a new band adds fuel to the fire.
It's kind of like going out with a girl who does most stuff but not something you really want to do. You put up with it cos the rest is good, but once she gets way high matience it hits your mind again. It's sort of cumulative.
The public at large is angry at Axl because they want traditional GNR. But they love his voice and his abilities to a point that they are putting up with it, but then when there's too much drama and lateness that anger resurfaces. On one level they're mad about the time, but deeper, I think the time is just another factor in a list of things that are frustrating the public.

Agreed. They got a vision in their head of who what they think he is and they are driven to justify that to themselves.

Agree here too. One girl said as much.

All the talk outside the gig was about Axl and "I wonder if he'll show his face". When I was leaving after the walk off, one guy turned to me and said "Are you guys going already?" I told him yeah, I got people in here who'll let me know if they come back and I'm starving, he answered "yeah but there a riot to be had".
The only people who I talked to about the songs and band members all day were my own crew.

You see the same hatred flare up when Robert plant says he's no interested in Zeppelin. He is Vilified. Its that more intense for Axl however since he's still using the name. People want what they are drawn to the familiar its human nature.
