Re: Dublin, Ireland - September 1, 2010 (The O2)
"The brains to adapt to his schedule"? Fuck that. If I pay €80 for a ticket (actually, I paid £130, plus the cost of the ferry and petrol to Dublin) I have a right to expect that the gig will proceed at something approximating a reasonable schedule. And I'm a fan of the band, one who knows about and understands Axl's preference for late starts. I talked to a lot of people while waiting for them to cone onstage, and 90% of them were casual concertgoers who had no idea who was in the band, much less that Axl tends to favour late starts.
On top of that, there's late and then there's late. Starting at 10:30pm in a venue whose license runs to 11:30pm, mere days after another gig has been cut short for overrunning AND OFFERING NEITHER AN EXPLANATION NOR AN APOLOGY is just unacceptable. It's unprofessional.
Now, I'm going to the Birmingham gig; I'm having to get transport to the venue and back from London on a Sunday; I have to go to work on Monday morning. I have to be able to plan this in advance, and not be subject to the whims of an overgrown adolescent who "just likes late starts".
I'm sorry, but either you accept it, or you don't. You clearly don't accept it. Complain all you want, but it won't do any good. You're right about all you say, but it won't help you one bit. Just don't go. But, yet you still have tickets for Birmingham. If you have to go to work on Monday, then make sure you have the day off, take a day vacation or call in sick. Make the necessary arrangements, or simply drop the entire deal because Axl ain't gonna change. I've been to two shows, and I had no issues with either work, his stupid late starts or anything else. It's like a trip in the mountains. Come prepared or risk dying.
So, "fuck it" all you want, but he won't play your game. You will just end up gutted, annoyed, frustrated and pissed off.
Re: Dublin, Ireland - September 1, 2010 (The O2)
I'd be gutted if that was to happen and I'm more than a little concerned about Axls mental state at the moment, the reports of him with his head in is hands is very upsetting.
But seriously, you think the whole world should just adapt to Axl?
Nope, but if you're going you need to have certain things in order. Listen, this is beyond the fact that Axl simply can't come at the right time. We all know it, it's all those things elevendayempire said, but it simply won't change anything no matter how much we complain or discuss it. I can spend hours here criticising Axl for it, but it's not helping. They are out playing, and if you wanna go, adapt to it. You have the ability and knowledge about it, I expect at least the hardcores to make the necessary arrangements. What it does to the average concert goer is a whole other debate, and plenty can be said about how disrespectful that is.
I'm talking about the second step. If you so want to go, come prepared or simply don't go. There's nothing we can do for all those average Joes going. It creates tons of bad publicity, it creates tons of discussion where the conclusion is that Axl is this and that, and I agree to mostly all of it. But I expect at least hardcore followers of this board to be prepared for what they're venturing into without splashing out stuff we all agreed on and concluded on a few hundred years ago. The late starts simply sucks. Either accept it and be prepared for it, or stay at home.
Re: Dublin, Ireland - September 1, 2010 (The O2)
Its not me who should be making the effort to do anything about it. Whether ya like it or not, Axl Rose and Guns N'Roses have an obligation and responsibility to ensure these gigs they book and sell tickets for run smoothly, for the safety and security of fans, the band, venue staff etc.
But its GN'R, its always this way, so everyone else can go to hell?
Re: Dublin, Ireland - September 1, 2010 (The O2)
Its getting to the stage where people are in real danger of being hurt.
fwiw i didn't think the amount of bottles being thrown (& their accuracy) got to the stage of people being hurt or injured. the situation only really escalated to dangerous proportions after the walkoff when some idiots were contemplating a riot. but then again i wasn't on the receiving end. it didn't seem anywhere near as bad as donnington '06..
