FROM THE NME REVIEW OF LEEDS..."HUGE CROWD"...nobody here mentioned that quote.

"Up until the encore, despite the late start, the Leeds show went ahead without any controversial incidents taking place, with the group attracting a huge crowd."  19

that one doesn't count I guess.

Axl Rose - predictable, boring "rebel"

Amen. In 1991, this shit would've been the epitome of cool. Now... fuck off.

I didn't think it was cool in 1991 either nor did alot of other people. I just like his voice and lyrics to some of his songs.

Am I right in thinking they never played Better?  Why is that?  Out of the new songs I'd have guessed that would be more popular than say SOD.

Axl's voice is a little iffy on Better most times its played. Maybe that's the reason. He's always seemed to enjoy singing The Blues.

I think he realizes the crowd doesn't give a fuck. I haven't heard one review, fan or no fan say that Chinese Democracy gets the crowd goin as the opener. It's like people look at their watches, then wake up when Jungle comes on.

He sees that stuff. Anytime those new songs have gotten mixed reactions, Axl always runs and hides in the AFD cubbie hole.

Just guessing, or making excuses, however you want to look at it.  They tried to play "Better" at Reading after the power was cut.  Of course, that didn't work.  And Axl said at Leeds that they wanted to play more songs but couldn't because of curfew.  I imagine, "Better" may have been one of those songs.

They got outdrew by 2 bands I had never heard of.

I've heard of LCD Soundsystem but not Marina & the Diamonds. If a majority of the crowd was in their teens/early 20s, I'm not surprised they bailed on GNR.

LCD Soundsystem is actually A Very Good band, only not outdoors. Saw them warm up a festival for Chemical Brothers.

Too bad.
