I think you hit on how I feel, axlin08. Ron's crazy shredding solos just feel like meandering aimlessly down the road with no destination in mind. With the Scraped solo, I'm like: where is he going with this. We end up nowhere.

As much as I dislike Robin, his solos feel like fully formed pieces. Same with Bucket. He can noodle too, but I always feel like there's a plan. The Rhiad solo for example that was cut echoed elements of the intro and outro. There was a purpose for all of it. Sub it with Ron's solo on CD, and it all falls apart. His solo has nothing to do with the rest of the song.

Which is not necessarily Ron's fault either. I'm sure Axl said "do something with this", and just cut n' paste all of his favorite stuff, and pretty much released a chronicle of the CD era, with parts from all members of that era having contributions, which left it convoluted like it was.

And you're right with Robin. Never been a fan of his work, but you're right with where he goes with stuff. This I Love, really don't think highly of that solo, but it has direction.

Even though Robin's not a shredder, you go back to his contributions to Better, Street of Dreams, and even TWAT to an exist, and Ron is forgotton very easily when his contributions are held up to Robin's.

The only time Ron really blares in your ear is Shackler's, and the thing was written by Bucket. I still don't quite understand having an obvious Bucket track, with Bucket on the picture of the liner notes, with a Bucket-direction, and Bucket-written, having Ron duplicate the most highlighting part of the song for Bucket.

I disagree about the scraped solo...I think it has a strong sense of melody underpinning it...and the way it wavers around with a lot of other notes and the fretless feel to it kind of give it a sense of tension...so it kind of does what you expect it to do...but it sounds like it was sort of painful for the guitar....kind of suits the context of the song IMO.

There's another fan interview with Ron I saw over on HTGTH.  Here's the link.

And here's some stuff we've heard before, but just to reiterate.

WI: Are there plans already in the works for the next Guns N' Roses album?

RT: Right now the only thing we've got going on is looking at touring. There's nothing to be said yet about anything beyond that. I know it sounds cryptic and like I'm holding back or something. It's no secret that there's other music from the Chinese Democracy days, it's just a question of what's going to happen with them. I guess that's up to Axl and what he wants to do with them.

WI: Is the plan currently to tour through 2011?

RT: Hopefully, hopefully we'll keep it going. At this point, shit man, I want to make some fucking music. I'm itchin'. I need to make something that comes from this band, in this decade. I've been telling them for a long time that before every leg of the tour I would love to just go into the studio for a week together and just bust out a song and give it to radio stations, make it available for downloads, and play it live. After a couple of legs we'd have a good batch of music of our own.

WI: Is that something that has happened at all as far as you guys working on your own music, or is it still all from the Chinese Democracy days?

RT: We all can write, but we haven't done that yet.

If anything is going to happen, DJ & Ron are going to be the ones to initiate it imo. I'm not sure whether or not Tommy will be interested without Axl.

that really sucks....Tommy doesn't care cause he writes his own solo stuff and has already played on everything in the vault.

Yeah but I was referring to Tommy writing from scratch with the current band. Maybe he, like Axl, would go "no, we've got a vault full of shit, i'm all wrote out".

Well, that is not a good sign if we are waiting on Axl to do something.

From the sounds of Ron's interview, my guess is Axl won't have DJ alter anything from the Chinese sessions....at least that is a good thing in my opinion.

I doubt it. The first time around we got a chronicle of CD's era. Next time, if Axl sticks with this band, DJ will re-record Robin, Ron will re-record Bucket, Frank will re-record Brain. All of it. imo

Does anyone ever ask "Why not?" Its like interviews end right there. I realize he's admitted they haven't done anything in four years several times, but there's never a followup.

Fuck, Cornell's Audioslave run happened in less time than that. I think its time they shake some speed on this thing.
