GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist BUMBLEFOOT Breaks Down Solo Song 'Strangles' - Aug. 24, 2010

Video footage of GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal breaking down the song "Strangles" from his 1995 debut, "The Adventures Of Bumblefoot", can be viewed below. The entire clip, including tab, audio, and an interview with Thal, is available at this location.

An instrumental effort, "The Adventures Of Bumblefoot" has been re-released with a 200-page transcription book "that explains everything that was recorded on the whole album," according to Thal. Copies are available at BaldFreak.com, with autographed CD proceeds going to multiple sclerosis research.

"The Adventures Of Bumblefoot", was originally released in 1995 by Shrapnel Records in North America and Roadrunner Records in Europe and Japan.

All the songs are named after obscure animal diseases, and the characters in the artwork reflect each song.

The original album contained 12 songs and two bonus tracks. Out of print and unavailable since the late '90s, CD copies of the record have been selling for as much as $600 on eBay.

15 years later, Shrapnel Records has re-released the album, with new packaging and an additional five bonus tracks from a SEGA video game soundtrack Ron did in 1996.

"The Adventures Of Bumblefoot" re-release track listing:

01. Bumblefoot
02. Orf
03. Scrapie
04. Blue Tongue
05. Limberneck
06. Q Fever
07. Strawberry Footrot
08. Ick
09. Malignant Carbuncle
10. Rinderpest
11. Strangles
12. Fistulous Withers

Bonus tracks:

13. Poem
14. Shell On The Sand
15. Pirate Level 2 *
16. Mythology Level 2 *
17. Sci-Fi Level 3 *
18. Cemetery Level 2 *
19. Cemetery Level 1 *

I get that Bumble is talented, no doubt about that. So is Eric Clapton. I don't dig Clapton's music. I don't dig Bumble's music. Simple really.

Of the worst solos on CD, Bumble does them all. I thought Bucket had the worst solo on CD in Scraped. Then, someone told me Bumble did it. D'oh. I just don't like his style. I also don't like the fretless. It produces a weird sound for me.

It has nothing to do about favorites or treating them like sports teams. It has everything to do with taste. Bumble's not my taste. Robin's not my taste. Bucket is. So is Neal Schon, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Wes Montgomery, Al Dimeola, Jack White.

Sorry to be such an idiot not to like Bumble, Stepvhen. Real sorry about that. I hope you'll get over it.

This is partly why I like Ron, he is a proper fucking guy without any bulllshit, what you see is what you get, like Duff.  I`m quite selective with his solo material though.. I think its missing a good vocalist.. know anyone??
I`ll always prefer BH, but anyone who can bring it to the stage like Ron deserves more respect than they are getting.

Why you getting butt hurt?? I said I was talking about Cheerleaders who take the sports team approach which you stated you didn't so then how could my comment pertain to you?

You made a blanket statement, and I just responded as one of those presumably under the blanket.

Sorry.

Chill guys.

I think Bri made a good logical post about valid reasons he isn't really into Ron. I personnally like Ron's solos on the album, but that's just me. It takes all types.

I think stepvhen wasn't meaning to call Bri an idot but rather the types who post things like "Bumble can't play guitar" that you see sometimes which taste asside are clearly inaccurate.

Yeah, I get that. Ron is definitely talented, and more talented than the average.

His CD contributions show potential imo, but there was nothing that wowed me. Almost all of his parts, short of maybe Catcher, were just duplicating Bucket's already written material, and even his original stuff on Catcher, it was good, it wasn't Brian May, but even he admitted that. Who is? Other than Brian.

There's something I just can't put my finger on with Ron's playing. It's not bad, but it's like there's no feel. Bucket emotes something out of the listener. Like how I can tap my foot to Park Theme from Bucketheadland, because it's that catchy. Or how you can feel like you're fading away in Padmasana. Or the almost rush you get from the TWAT solo.

I haven't heard that from Ron. I think he's capable of it, but alot of times he just seems to do noodly-noodly shredding with no real direction. Does it take talent? Yeah. But just going crazy with a fiddle don't give it feel like Charlie Daniels does it.

It's one of the main reasons I feel it's proof time for this current Guns N' Roses. If Ron's so talented, and DJ's so great, let's see what's up. Let's see what they have to offer the listener together. "Axl won't let them", Axl doesn't dictate to anyone in that band when and where they record together. They could all cut an album, sans Axl, with Dizzy on fucking vocals and Chris on bass, and it would showcase what they have. If it sucks, then oh well, if it's great... call Axl and tell him to fire up the mixing board and start writing lyrics and melodies.
