Re: what does Axl/GNR have to, to regain your interest 100%

since I 'm bored at work...some useless trivia. Essentially, Gnr started the Chinese Democracy tour on 1-1-2001. From 1-1-2001 to 6-14-2010, the band has actually played (not counting cancellations) 161 shows with 1 US confirmation and 23 scheduled for Europe's second leg . By comparison, the UYI tour went from 5-24-1991 to 7-17-1993 and the band played 192 shows. tongue

We will be pretty close to the amount of shows being equal by year end. Of course, the UYI band did it in 2 years and the Chinese crew just hit the decade mark.

If Use Your Illusion were one album, it'd destroy CD. Hell, it might even destroy AFD.

I'd had a Use Your Illusion mix CD for years, that's only 11 trx, but it might be the greatest album ever made...

Civil War
Yesterdays
Don't Cry [original]
Bad Obsession
Breakdown
Locomotive
November Rain
The Garden
Estranged
You Could Be Mine
Coma

Hell, I think that owns the ass of Appetite. It's still missing, Dust N' Bones, Perfect Crime, You Ain't The First, Double Talkin' Jive, Dead Horse, Pretty Tied Up, and the covers Live and Let Die & Knockin' On Heaven's Door. When you think about it that way, it makes UYI stronger. The reality tho is that UYI was a double album, mixed with greatness, solid rockers, B-sides, and crap. It's a mixed bag for sure.

CD is a bit better, but I don't think it'll hold up in 10 years to be honest. Whereas the UYI material will still be just as great. There's a timeless quality to both AFD & UYI, that's non-existant in CD.

In 10 years, CD will be down to probably 5-6 songs that I will still listen to...just like all of Gnr's albums.

UYI didn't hold up well after 3 years, hell, make that 2 years.

LALD
Dust N' Bones
Don't Cry
Perfect Crime
DTJ
NR
Garden Of Eden
Dead Horse
Coma
Civil War
Yesterdays
Locomotive
KOHD
Estranged

Would be a very solid album that would have sold 20 million copies. And still wouldn't come close to being on the same level as AFD.

And CD would still be a better album.

KOHD is only on that tracklist for sentimental reasons, because the recording, production is really lame. The old live version, especially the ritz 88, was way, way better. The 02-06 line ups version is also fantastic. Dead Horse and Garden of Eden are on there because... Well, just because big_smile

And for the record, Coma is a great song, but in the last few years has become way, way way, over hyped by GNR fans. There was a poll back in the HTGTH days where it was voted the best GNR song of all time. Not. Even. Close.

The overall album was very dated after 3 years. I loved some of those songs, but I did lose interest after TSI, which I liked, btw.

When I read in 1999-2000 that Axl got Tommy Stinston, Robin Finck (big NIN's fan) Brain and Buckethead I got really excited about GNR again.

from a lyrical standpoint, that outro is Axl's finest moment imo.

yeah was a fan and listened regularily till about 97 or so then OMG came out and i grabbed that ... then was shocked when live era surfaced...just walked into a store one day it was there ... wasnt happy with TSI, OMG or Live era, but my interest was somewhat maintained albeit a fairly low key interest by pawnshop guitars and five o'clock until RIRIII happened
