UYI's great songs do make up for it, but DUH on that "if it weren't for Estranged, NR, etc. it would be a complete disaster"

That's kind of a weird statement. Technically if you take Jungle, Paradise City & Sweet Child off AFD, it's a "no hits" album, just like CD.

No, it's not the same for this reason: It's So Easy, Mr. Brownstone, Nightrain, Rocket Queen, My Michelle.

Then "Outta Get Me, You're Crazy, Think About You, Anything Goes."

That album is fucking solid, even outside the classic (hit) songs. Only 2 of those latter songs are weak links.

UYI is nowhere near that. It's FILLED with mediocre songs. AFD and CD aren't.

I forgot to add Coma to that list, but even taking away the four tracks you call filler, it's still a better album.

No doubt Come is one of the best from UYI.

In a wierd way (and I know it's pretty out there...), I feel it's kinda wrong to compare UYI to CD at this moment in time. Thinking of how Axl views the whole CD-thing as a double, I feel I need part II before  saying one is better than the other...

All I know at the moment is for almost two years, when I listen to GNR, its 95% CD...

if you take a third of the songs off AFD then there isnt any singles? 16 oooooo-kayyy

if some people thing CD is better than UYI then its just personal preference

there is lots of debate about the uyi disks to be sure, if they had made one disk and held back the second for a follow up to tsi then maybe it soulda helped them get their shit together and maybe they coulda spanned the grunge years intact...but hind sight is always 20/20

i think it was on the other site but we did do a UYI best of elimination once, but yeah everyone has their own opinions on the subject

One of the only songs that hasn't aged well is "Get In The Ring" - that song has no business being on the record - it should have been a B-Side. The music for GITR is very cool and it's a shame that the lyrical content is so silly. Though, back in the day GITR was very fun to listen too.

The music on GITR is definitely what saves it, it's Slash playing GN'R rock at it's sleazy best. Great sleazy riff and really cool soloing, as on all of the tracks on UYI.

GITR had its place in gnr history...that song needed to be made...while myself (and others) may have outgrown its content, it was still an important track IMO ... you gotta remember swearing and stuff on albums wasnt really common place at the time

Exactly. Back in 1991, swearing on a big commercial rock release was unheard of.

Most retailers were threatening to ban stocking UYI on their shelves due to this. These days it's the hip thing to have a "parental advisory" sticker on a CD, but with GN'R, it was just who and what they were. No bullshit pretenses or anything like that. 9

As for all these "UYI would be better if it didn't have this song or that song" posts, I love the fact that there is a great varied collection of songs across the 2 albums, and it's what made me fall in love with Guns back in the day.

UYI was one of the first albums I owned where I loved nearly every song on there.
I can't say that about too many other albums in my big collection I have.

It is an awesome song musically.  At the time, it wasn't good lyrically but it served a purpose.  Now people can't get past the lyrics to enjoy the music. For people like me that are much more into the music, the song still stands up today.  It might be one of the best rockers musically on any gnr album. I used the song to get pumped for softball tourneys all the time. Very high energy.

I definitely can't get past the lyrics...brutal then and brutal now. Don't like the music either.....same goes for Shotgun Blues.
