Re: what does Axl/GNR have to, to regain your interest 100%
And GnR is a nostalgia act just like every other band that fits that profile.
If the current tour would come out as more than an afterthought to promote CD, they'd be more than an AFD band throwing some new numbers.
Maybe...once people got done laughing at them.
The band today with Bucket would go down well, only if they'd be promoted as a band. People are generally more open to the idea of a GNR member wearing a bucket than they were a decade - or, heaven forbid, two decades - ago. A little band promotion wouldn't hurt, tho.
We're definitely image conscious. I think if Izzy came wearing a clown suit to a photo session, we'd want to know how he could validate his presence in a clown suit. [Laughs] But if he could back it up and convince us there was a reason, then it would be cool. Otherwise, it wouldn't be. - Axl, '89
Bucket's a performing artist and his outlook is an extension of his persona. I personally find the stage clothes of KISS way more redundant, but I digress.
Even if this was true for everybody, we're short 3/4 of that formula. We have 1/2 of what Axl used to be and no guitar hero (and I do love Ron the person and as a guitar player).
As a performer, Axl's generally fine considering his age. I'd give him even three quarters of his old self on a good night.
For the record, I don't have a problem with Axl using the name, personally. Just that he treats the outfit like it's his solo project.
Re: what does Axl/GNR have to, to regain your interest 100%
And you've been painting me as a non GNR fan... I didn't prove your point at all. You and I differ completely on what era of GNR we like the most. And you've made your stance quite clear, but you seem to be unable to accept anybody elses preferences, or else we wouldn't constantly have these arguments. No one is right or wrong here in what they dig, Bono. My (only) problem with you is that if anyones opinion on GNR doesn't match your own, then you say really stupid shit, like the jarmoesque line "you're not really a fan."
2002 GNR appealed to me much, much more than any other era of GNR. fwiw, when Slash left GNR, hell, when Izzy left GNR, people stopped following the band. Just because of that one member. That doesn't make them any more or less of a fan.
And the U2 thing; you're making a ridiculous imaginary comparison. This GNR is real. They've been playing together for a long time. And the core group of this GNR (Tommy, Dizzy, Chris) have been GNR longer than the old one was. They are GNR to me. No matter how much of an "Axl fan" I am, I probably would stop following GNR all together if Tommy left. My love for the band was hurt by Buckethead leaving, then it was really hurt when Robin left. There's still enough of the GNR I like to keep me interested... For now. And I'm still interested in the new music.
This is such garbage. Comprehend what I'm saying. I'm not saying you're not a true fan of the band I'm saying you're more interested in Axl Rose then Guns N' Roses at least in relation to how I see Guns N' Roses. Even if this new band took the name and Axl went solo you'd follow Axl. It's about Axl to alot of you and that's great but don't get so offended when people say you're not a true fan of the "band" Guns N' Roses but more so a fan of Axl Rose. People who say Axl IS Guns N' Roses make it very clear that it doesn't matter who's in the band as long as it's Axl Rose singing they're good. I mean Velvet Revolver was more Guns N' Roses than Guns N' Roses but people just say no way cause Axl owns the rights to the name and Axl IS Guns N' Roses. Bullshit. I guess what it all boils down to is I see Gn'R as a unit and this isn't it. I gave it a chance and it's been a farce for over a decade. I mean let's be fucking serious. This new band has some amazingly talented musicians so why aren't the producing amazing music? It's because it's not a collaboration. It's a solo project and everything needs to be approved by a guy who's so OCD it's not even funny. If Axl Rose IS Guns N' Roses then he became the weak link long ago. I wanted this new band to be Guns N' Roses, I thought they would be but Axl Rose has NEVER allowed this band to be Guns N' Roses. It's be all about Axl Rose for the last 15 years. If this wasn't the case they'd have done something to change the perception but they haven't
And come on Dizzy and Chris core members? whatever!
Re: what does Axl/GNR have to, to regain your interest 100%
Soothsayer is alot better than Nottingham Lace...holy shit, listening to it now.
It was one of the first new songs Bucket was playing on tour after leaving GNR. I firmly believe it and Lace were presented during the GNR session. In fact, there are stories about Monti and Bucket coming up with Lace during CD's development. Both fit the "GNR" epic mold, especially Soothsayer. Oh well.
What if ...
Re: what does Axl/GNR have to, to regain your interest 100%
I personally feel There Was A Time is one of the best GN'R songs ever recorded, because of Bucket's presence on the album.
Bucket was the chance. And the odd thing is, it's the one thing I DON'T feel Axl blew. Bucket just didn't fit in with a stadium-caliber rock band. It's not his scene.

Agreed. TWAT is a great song. Bucket's epic solo is on par with SCOM, NR, etc.

It would have took Axl 30 years to come up with lyrics to Soothsayer, and I don't consider that an exaggeration.
Padmasana would fall in the same category.
Better to just hear it instrumentally instead of rotting in a vault waiting for the usual cut and paste job.
edit: on the subject of Axl-Bucket what ifs, would have been cool if Axl could have done something with this...
another edit: Just a reminder of the talent lost.....
Re: what does Axl/GNR have to, to regain your interest 100%
Well, thats your opinion. I don't like, and never liked SCOM. The only listenable thing is the solo. The rest are of annoyance to me, all the way up to the cheesy lyrics.

All true. The sad thing is, rock fans and GNR fans wasn't "mature" enough to accept him as a rock band musician. Rock fans to me have always been a bunch of conservative assholes, flipping the finger off if anything differs from what they expect.
The more I think of it, the more I'm willing to just leave the GNR name behind for an Axl Rose/Buckethead/Mantia project. They could have called it whatever they wanted. However, with Axl's life connection to the GNR name and his feelings, it most likely would never have happened. However, I would have gone with it in a second. You got TWAT as proof that it COULD have worked if the stars were aligned correctly.

It's not garbage, dude. I was responding to your previous posts that were in no way explained like you just explained them. At all. It was pure, "You're not really a GNR fan." To me, Axl was and is the most IMPORTANT piece of GNR, always was, imo. That does nothing to diminish the great tunes the other guys brought to the band.
And the music is definitely a collaboration. You can see that through the album credits. And Dizzy and Chris played big parts in creating those songs, too. So yes, they are core members.
Re: what does Axl/GNR have to, to regain your interest 100%
nothing is on par with SCOM....think about it.
Don't want another SCOM. My musical tastes have veered into an entirely different direction. Even if the old band got back together I wouldn't want SCOM II.
I know you're point is more about nothing there being a sure fire hit in comparison to SCOM, and that's true. He obviously cant write a song like that again anyways, so let's just imagine something at the level of the links above, which would have been feasible had he utilized their talents instead of thumb twiddling and having Brain replicate something note for note created by a guy that already bailed.
I don't even think most GNR fans realize what a huge loss Bucket was as they never dove into his discography. They were content to just label him a freak and judge him on a few solos while worshiping Fortus who cant even be heard on the songs.
The major talent is now gone and we see what remains. No new material has been worked on either, and you sure as shit aren't gonna get a SCOM in the current conditions.

Said this a long time ago but I'll go ahead and say it again....
Axl should have joined Praxis for an album or two.
Axl- vocals
Buckethead- guitar
Bootsy- bass, vocals
Bernie Worrell- keyboards
Brain- drums
produced by Bill Laswell
No sappy ballads. No cut and paste bullshit. No thumb twiddling. Just go into the studio for a couple months and see what happens.
