Ellen DeGeneres Quits American Idol, Kara DioGuardi Sacked

by Music-News.com - July 31 2010

The talk show host decided to quit her judging role after just one season because it wasn't the "right fit" for her, while the pretty songwriter is said to have been asked to leave as part of a shakeup of the programme following head judge Simon Cowell's departure.

Explaining her departure in a statement, Ellen said: "A couple months ago, I let FOX and the 'American Idol' producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for.

"I also realised this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on Idol and I am very grateful for the year I had, I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be."

Meanwhile, gossip website TMZ reports that the show will return to having just three judges, with Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith star Steven Tyler favourites to join Randy Jackson.

The website states: "Sources connected with the 'American Idol' negotiations tell TMZ Kara DioGuardi has judged her last contestant on 'American Idol' - because she's been fired.

"We're told the show will be going back to a three-judge format and assuming all deals are finalised, the judge's panel will consist of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

"We're told the only way Kara could get a reprieve is if the J-Lo deal falls apart - but we're told that deal is done."

Singer-and-actress Jennifer has reportedly been in talks with show boss Simon Fuller for several weeks.

Jumped the shark.  The talent has gotten worse and now the only entertaining piece is gone.

I never liked the show and honestly hope it goes away, and fast.  I think they were headed that way with Randy, Kara, and Ellen.  BUT Ellen quit and they were smart enough to get rid of Kara, so that's actually great for them as far as saving some face.  Not sure if J-Lo and Steven Tyler could save the show, but they would be a hell of a lot better than Randy, Kara, and Ellen.  I still hope it fails miserably, even if Steven is involved.

Well, in her defense I think she's comparable to Paula Abdul, who was a successful judge on the show.  J-Lo did have a successful recording career in the early 2000's, for whatever ungodly reason.

I am proud to say I have never watched this show and will continue that. Not even one of my favorite artists going on the program can convince me to watch.

While I do believe the death of record stores the main reason for the collapse of the music industry, I think this program is the reason for pop music becoming so stale the past decade. That bullshit is spoon fed to the masses. I've never watched it yet know some of the people who have won(and a few who lost). Its basically a bunch of nobodies on the show, AI figures out who they can mold into safe pop fluff, then they fabricate the whole thing and sell it to the masses. Once they ride that initial wave, they flush the nobody down the toilet and repeat the cycle.

A band like New Young Pony Club should have destroyed the pop charts four years ago but the general public got fed this mindless drivel instead.

The day this show goes off the air will be a breathtaking occurrence and maybe we can see something resembling normalcy and talent break through.

It's amazing that the GaGa craze even occurred under these conditions. Really shows her talent, creativity, and desire to not stop until she's achieved her goals.

^ what you said but substituting Idol for X Factor.  There was a cracking line said on a comedy show called Mock The Week (does what it says on the tin) and one round is called 'this is the answer what is the question' (jeopardy) and the answer was "15 per second"
and one of them says  "How many pounds sterling is Simon Cowell paid to cut the cultural throat of our nation and drink its still-warm blood?"

I really do wish he would just fuck off and never ever be seen by any human being ever again..

Simon Cowell was the ONLY thing to watch on that piece of shit show from 8 years and now he's gone.

I was never a viewer, but like others have said, Simon was it for alot of years. Now he's gone, the talent has ALWAYS sucked, with the exception of the Carrie Underwood's and Adam Lambert's, and even they are massively bubblegum and mainstream.

The show will continue to die. I could see Steven playing a bad guy, but J. Lo? Who gives a shit. Just call Paula. It isn't like she's doing anything.
