Re: The Devil
Me too. Personally I don't think it ever came out since the end of the 80's.
There's a couple of throwback films that gave the genre a faint heartbeat, because they parodied it (i'm thinking Scream), but I don't think it's ever fully recovered. Blair Witch sucked donkey balls, Grudge (even the original) was overrated by lightyears.
Now, not only does the American market suck, but so does Asia & Italy. It all sucks. And a "hit" these days is usually just remakes/reboots of formerly popular franchise films, and the even more sad thing, is those reboots SUCK HARD in comparison to those originals.
Jason Goes To Hell is a fuckin' masterpiece compared to these new reboots, and back in '93 that was the fuckin' pits in comparison to Jason Takes Manhattan, which was the pits in... you get the idea.
Where's the 1970's decade when you need it? 60's & 70's both were fuckin' Gold eras. I'd call the 80's a "silver" era. Seemed to be more about sequels to 70's films, rather than new originals.
Re: The Devil
Well shit, I didn't mean to bring on the end of horror!
I have to agree about Asia being really stale right now, and has been for a while, imo. And the Gudge being very overrated. I hated that movie.
But disagree about Europe. They're getting into some really good gore films, with solid, but still twisted, story lines. Pretty damn good, imo.
There's also been some really good horror coming out of Spain.
And really, it goes in cycles in America. Once one good horror film comes out there's 100 bad ones. Just the way it is.
