Well that's good and bad. It's a great era, but at the same time, it seems they're just dusting off an unreleased track. hmm

That's exactly what they are doing.  And that's what the original post said as well.  It's an unreleased track that they are now releasing for Guitar Hero.

I'm happy.  I've always wanted that box set they've talked about.

I'm wondering if they will play it at Lolla.

Back to Soundgarden....

Ben said Black Rain is from the Superunknown recording sessions.  9

*shits pants again*

How on earth they held that back is mind boggling. They were unloading b sides left and right on the singles for that album, and of course the import version had She Likes Surprises.

I am glad to hear something new from those sessions as that album is mind blowing, but I do question the quality of it but I guess that's pointless as they may have just felt it didn't go with the album regardless of how good or bad it is.

As far as playing it at Lolla, I doubt it. Soundgarden used to road test new material before album releases by doing  club tours, but this is a different ball game as they reunited, are playing a festival, and there is no word on a new album.

Thats the version we got over here. What a song ! Should have been included just before or after mailman in the album

The track sequencing on that album is brilliant.

She likes Surprises is hugely under-rated - one of my favs off of Superunknown

Absolutley thrilled by this Black Rain news - especially with it being a Superunknown era song. Ben saying it has been "re-worked" is interesting - that to me sounds like it was re-recorded recently.

If that's the case, what else have they been recording? 11

Could just mean, remixing/remastering I guess

While we wait for this SPIN article and Lolla, I uploaded the track Karaoke from the Down on the Upside sessions for those that don't have it. It was released as a B side in 96 but got no attention. Its fucking killer. I guess I can see why they didn't put it on the album as it's different than everything else on that album, but it really shows the band would have went in a slightly different direction had they released an album in 98 or 99 instead of breaking up.

I would have killed for an album full of tracks like this.

Anyone opposed to the band rerecording old songs and making it a "new" album instead of starting fresh? Would love an updated version of this track.

I'm certainly not opposed to that idea.  Anything that is 'new' from Soundgarden works for me.  I love a lot of their non-album tracks.  Blind Dogs and Birth Ritual are two amazing songs.
