Re: Machete - trailer
It looks like it could be a pretty cool movie based on that trailer/cast. I never saw "Planet Terror", I just saw "Death Proof". And I obviously didn't see it in the theater either so I wasn't aware "Machete" was a fake movie trailer as a part of Grindhouse and got such a great reaction that they decided to go ahead with it.
Re: Machete - trailer
Yeah, that was the irony of Grindhouse. Machete was the most interesting piece, and it was just a jokey teaser trailer. Popular demand got the ball rolling on actually making it.
Grindhouse was a mixed bag for me. I anxiously wanted to see Death Proof. Saw it, didn't like it. Every scene with Kurt Russell is great stuff, he just commands the whole thing.... however.... Russell is only in the film for a limited period of time. Kind of reminded me of those later Halloween sequels. When Donald Pleasence 'was on screen', he still was dynamite. But as soon as he was not around, the film sucked. That's how I felt with Death Proof. Russell was amazing, but anytime he was not around, which was the majority of the flick - it blew.
Ironically, I didn't have much interest in Planet Terror, and I thought Planet Terror was a better film. Not by massive ends, but I was more entertained.
Machete looks like it could be really good. Don Johnson, Cheech Marin & Robert DeNiro. That's an instant ticket-buy for me.
I also wanted to throw out there the "Heat"-connection. Just to remind everyone that Danny Trejo & Robert DeNiro were in the same crew in that film. I had actually forgotton about that when I watched the Machete trailer.
