As a fan of all the incarnations, what I'd like is a GNR game where you could start in the band and work through all the line ups.

So you know you play as slash on AFD, then finish up as Bumblefoot on shacklers....but you know that's in dream world I guess.

Last thing in the world I want to see is anything AFD related, so cant really say I oppose the stance.

I think Axl holding this license is positive. Why do I have the sneaky feeling that if Slash held them, we would have another Kiss on our hands when it comes to branding and merchandise?

Very true! And thank God!!!! Him and his wife would go all Sharon Osbourne and Gene Simmons on the GNR vault of goodies...
wink

Yeah from this perspective if Axl does hold the rights it's a good thing, I cringe at the thought of what Slash or more to the point Perla (after all she is the puppet master) would want to do with this stuff.

That said there are legitimate things that could be done that won't simply because of Axl's animosity for Slash.  As a long time fan that REALLY pisses me off.  I wouldn't mind RB or GH, but even of more interest is UYI DVD's, B-sides, studio out takes etc.

But that stuff simply won't happen, firstly because it seems Axl really doesn't want the old guys making any more $$'s off of Guns, plus it takes the focus off NuGNR and what they are trying to do (or allegedly trying to do).

So I can understand that but it still really annoys me.  Without the fans of the original band buying records and merch, attending concerts etc they never would have had the success they did.  Plus Axl wouldn't be able to do what he does now without that legacy to leverage off.  Yet we as fans continue to get fucked in the ass simply because of their stupid lovers tiff.   I wish to fuck they would all grow up!

Aussie, you talking about the UYI Tokyo DVD's?  I have the concert DVD's and the Video DVD, but all my "Makin of" videos are still VHS.  I think they came out with the DVD's back in 2004 maybe.  Anyway, the one DVD that NEEDS to happen is 1988's Live at the Ritz!  That shit would kill on DVD.

I am not sure on who has the rights either... I though Duff, Slash, and Axl had a partnership on the old material... I could be wrong.  Also I thought Universal owned the back catalog.. Who knows.

Nahh I meant all the footage that was taken during the UYI tour, I thought just about every show was filmed.  Agree 88 Ritz is one show that I would love to have on a quality DVD, I've obviously got boots of it on DVD.

But none of those type of things will probably come out until (if ever) Axl is done doing whatever it is he's trying to do.

BTW I have the making of's now on fan made DVD's.

you know what, the world of music would be better if Slash or whoever were whoring the Gn'R catelogue out to everyone so that the music is fucking heard rather than this artistic pretentious crap that Axl claims to be holding on to so dearly.  I coach 9 - 12 year old kids and I ALWAYS ask them what kinds of music they like and they tell me a bunch of shit bands and AC/DC . AC/DC is always mentioned and they are without a doubt the #1 answer that young kids say when I ask them who their favorite band is. That's insane and it shows that at least they know who AC/DC is and it's because AC/DC promotes thier music the way bands do in 2010. These 10 year old kids have almost zero clue who Guns N' Roses is. Half the tiem they stare at me with a blank face cause they can't figure out who I'm, talking about. Fuck Axl Rose, put AFD on Rockband and Guitar hero and the people who thinks it's selling out can look the other way. Its' 2010 for god's sake. Legit music is losing out to manufactured shit because people are worried about selling out. There's no such thing anymore. get over it.

Axl has released music to both Guitar Hero and Rock Band in the past...so I don't actually feel that it follows that if Axl has approval over this type of license that means that we'd never see the music hit those games.

As for Axl being against "selling-out", well we'd have to ask him, but on the basis of the evidence out there, I think he's against it in relation to the *music* only. That is, he won't work with the old band for even huge sums of cash, and he won't release an album he doesn't think is ready regardless of the pressure and sums of money thrown at him.

However, there's always been GNR licenses and merch and stuff around, hell remember the time MTV was giving away axl's old condo as a promotion.....I don't think Axl is against making money from music per say. So i don't actually see any reason he'd block this. He didn't last time. I think it was just a throw away line from slash saying that even though he's the GH3 guy it's not his call exclusively what happens.

I'd love to see pro dvds of the asian shows that just happened with the new band, and a the 88 ritz show....would buy them in seconds.

What old material did he release on Guitar Hero? WTTJ was clearly against his will and SCOM was a cover...

Somebody did. His answer was: "Follow your heart, don't sell out and read every book on the biz u can find."

During the next chats, we'll have to ask him what his definition of selling out is.
