Earlier this week one of the sites streaming these samples actually had the whole album available to stream. Someone figured out to just push play every 30 seconds and you got to hear the whole album. Not surprisingly, someone ripped that stream but in terrible quality.

I fought temptation all week and didn't download it. Well, I caved in last night and gave it a listen. NOT impressed. The best songs(Born Free, XXXO, Space) have already been released. Not only does Paper Planes not have a successor to its throne on here, it doesn't even have any legitimate singles other than the three songs listed above.

She was an idiot for giving Space away for free earlier this year. The album isn't good enough to be throwing its best songs online before the album is released.

While you cant fully judge it due to it being a web stream rip, it sounds like a bunch of demos thrown together at the last minute. There's no method to the madness here, and last but not least, the bombastic production of Kala is completely absent here. Cant wait to see the liner notes. There were a ton of people involved in this, and I can tell just by listening to it that Switch's role was minimized on this album.

It's just a huge disappointment all around. I figured she could never top Kala, but reality is now setting in and she most definitely hit her peak three years ago.

Couple years ago she talked about Kala possibly being her last album. Sounded insane at the time but if this is what she was bringing to the table, I wish she had followed through on that.

I'm already cringing at the thought of a /\/\ /\ Y /\ heavy set list on the upcoming tour.

Hopefully this album is a grower. Also, those bonus tracks better kick ten tons of ass.

I guarantee that Uni winds up having to re-release one of those songs mentioned above. If not, this thing is dead on arrival.

This album was already dead on arrival. M.I.A.'s unwarranted attitude of her ability, plus the fact Lady Gaga pretty much stole the entire pop business' thunder, put her as an immediate runner up. In alot of ways, she has to start all over again to get people back.

And to hear the album ain't Kala is just gonna hurt the cause.

I'm stunned. Judging on the singles, I figured it was gonna just be resurrecting what works, and to hear James, probably the biggest fan of her's I know, slamming it. Wow. I thought he'd be cumming all over this thing.

I'm truely stunned. I guess it's back to Soundgarden for Lofton. 16

She should have marketed this as a mix tape instead of a legitimate follow up to Kala. I could forgive the stutter step more easily under those conditions.

She actually dodged a bullet during the GaGa fiasco as she said she could no longer talk about it(I assume Iovine intervened), but point taken. I had a feeling this was on the verge of a derailment when she started ranting about pop stars and the internet instead of focusing on the music. Each previous album told a story and she would expand on that during its promo. We're just not seeing that here.

I don't know how newsworthy this is, but.

I also saw she's going to be on Letterman next Tuesday night, I believe.

M.I.A. Streams New Album A Week Early

by Andrew Tijs - July 7 2010

A week before release, MIA streams her forthcoming album online.

M.I.A, one of Time Magazine'™s '˜100 Most Influential People'™ of 2009, is streaming all twelve tracks, plus '˜XXXO'™ remixes featuring Jay-Z, following a leak of the album.

The album, titled /\/\/\Y/\ and pronounced 'Maya  (an abbreviation of Mathangi, her real first name), has already been reviewed by many media outlets due to a low-quality leak in late June.

Reviewers have been falling over themselves to praise it, Clash calling it a 'towering work that makes a mockery of rivals and genres  and the BBC dubbing it a 'terrifying achievement.

Listeners can wade through the animated gifs and hear the entire album at her myspace here.  http://www.myspace.com/mia

It was co-written with Baltimore rapper and producer Blaqstarr, with guest work from UK dubstep producer Rusko, Derek E. Miller from noise pop duo Sleigh Bells, as well as longtime co-conspirators Diplo and Switch.

/\/\/\Y/\ had its official Japanese release today, with an international release date of July 13.

M.I.A. will launch the album at two coastal shows in the US, in Los Angeles on July 17 with N*E*R*D, Die Antwoord and Flying Lotus and in New York on July 24 with Die Antwoord, Skream and Benga.

She then plays a handful of shows in the UK and Scandinavia through August.

Anyone praising this needs to pass the crack pipe. I actually just now downloaded this new leak, hoping the four bonus tracks make up for the mediocre album.

Even diplo(producer, long time collaborator) said all the songs on this album he didn't work on are "turds". That's a bit harsh, but I do agree with the gist of what he's saying. It's a mess and you can tell everyone and their grandma has their hands in this album's cookie jar. Like I said earlier, it sounds like a mix tape, NOT a legitimate follow up to Kala.

I guess when her album sales are down, all of her fans can blame the album being "streamed for free".

And being leaked.  Can't pull the lack of promotion from the aritst card though.  She's already done more than Axl and the album isn't even out yet.

Listened to this pristine leak a few times today. Caps Lock is an amazing tune. Why is this buried in bonus content when its easily one of the best songs? Internet Connection is pretty solid, but the other two bonus tracks(Illygirl, Believer) suck.

Gonna retract some of my harsh statements about the album. While I do think it's her worst album yet and is probably gonna bomb, there is some treasure here....

Born Free
Space
Caps Lock
XXXO
It Takes A Muscle
Internet Connection

Had that been released as an EP, I'd currently be climbing Everest to rave at its summit. It wasn't unfortunately, and there's just too many tracks you have to skip to find this treasure.  Not gonna give up yet, but this isn't really the type of music that grows on you. You either like it or you don't. Pretty soon I'm gonna be burning me an EP of the songs listed above.

I'm not really digging the main theme of the album. Don't think I even need to dive into that as those of you reading this can tell by the track list that it's pretty much a rant about the internet and current technology.

The album actually sounds pretty good. It's no Kala production wise, but not too shabby either. The rip of that web stream circulating for weeks didn't do this justice at all. She probably lost a lot of sales due to that leak because a casual fan isn't likely to give it another chance after that.
