Re: Eminem Recovery Artwork/Tracklist Revealed
I appreciate the hookup Russ. Right now i'm trying to give this album a chance, but I don't hear all you guys hear. This "return to form" stuff.
I hear Relapse 2. I hear an old rapper, past his prime, trying his damndest to recreate his earlier work.
Recovery smacks of trying too hard. It reminds me of Encore & Relapse. Few good radio-ready singles, and that's about it.
I'll keep listening, see if anything changes.
Re: Eminem Recovery Artwork/Tracklist Revealed
Yeah first listen, very unimpressed.. i think the Pink song is horrible... she just falls flat
then again i hated STP's album first few listens and now its on repeat over and over and over.
so who knows?
problem is, with the Mike J Fox line.. will i give it a chance? Probably not
i really respect, love and admire Micheal J Fox and that is just too unnecessary and over the line.
Re: Eminem Recovery Artwork/Tracklist Revealed
Ironically, I think Won't Back Down (the Pink song) is one of the better cuts on the record.
As for Michael, I don't really understand the reference to be honest. Fox is so far seperated from his previous career at this point, I don't know how many typical Eminem fans would even know who the hell he is. Since Spin City (which is now about a decade ago), he's only been a recurring TV guest star. It'd be like Em name dropping Mark Hamill at this point.
For example, calling out Michael Jackson, Kim Kardashian or Sarah Palin is a current events kind of thing. Name dropping Alex Keaton is a tad off the radar.

^^
Interesting point Russ. I noticed that too. Em is REALLY hard on himself in this record and for no reason. I don't think Recovery is bad by any means. Hell, I don't think Em has ever made a bad record. I just think at this point in his career he's got a few great singles per record, and the rest is by the numbers, and that's just the way it goes with artists who've been around the time he's been around.
Em is just too tough on himself in this record. He doesn't need to apologize for Encore & Relapse. They weren't THAT bad.
Re: Eminem Recovery Artwork/Tracklist Revealed
Wow. I'm honestly shocked that you guys don't think it's brilliant. As for D, I read you explained recently where you don't like a lot of albums right off the bat anyways so maybe it'll grow on you. I think it's every bit as good as The Marshall Mathers LP & The Eminem Show.
As for the Michael J. Fox line, it doesn't offend me all that much. I can understand what you guys are saying, but the line doesn't really offend me.
I also really like how he calls himself out a ton on the last 5 years or so of his career. How he actually comes out and says the last two albums suck, tells you why and how he's fixing it. I also like that he mentions that he was so down on himself that he was gonna start shitting on other rappers who were hot but caught it and stopped himself.
I think there's some amazing songs on this record. Space Bound really stuck out for me. Same with 25 to Life. I also really like No Love. He is on fire on that one.
