I loved this show. Would come on before wrestling on Saturdays when I was a kid.

Probably one of the best shows ever made.

I don't remember her on Mama's Family.

Let's just hope Betty White makes it out of 2011.

RIP Rue

Definitely placing Betty White in my death pool next year....

Other than Seasons 2-8 (1990-1997) of The Simpsons, I would say The Golden Girls is the best sitcom ever made. Even today I can still sit down and watch it, even the weaker episodes of the last couple of seasons, and laugh hysterically.

As for Mama's Family, another good one, Rue was on the show during the first two seasons. So was Betty White, ironically. They were both regulars. Rue played Aunt Fran Crowley, "Mama" Thelma Harper's sister. Betty White was Mama's daughter Ellen. This was when Mama's Family was on NBC. It ran for two seasons (1983-1984), and was then cancelled.

Two years later in 1986, it was revived for a 3rd season as a syndicated TV show. This is the more modern version of Mama's Family, with neighbor Iola and nephew Bubba. The changes wrote off several key characters from the first two seasons. Fran (Rue) was wrote off as having died (they actually premiere the show returning from her funeral). Betty White did reprise Ellen one more time in the season, and had a final falling out with Mama. By this point Rue & Betty were over on The Golden Girls. Mama's Family ended for good in 1990.

You'll have to forgive my Mama's Family knowledge. There was a time I only got about three TV channels, and it was ALWAYS on. Watched it religiously.

Yeah, I was watching it during that syndication run and I assume those early episodes were never played.

It was a decent show but got on my nerves quick. The supporting cast was not very impressive, and I just never bought that slut being married to Vinton. Wasn't realistic at all. She would have been dating Bubba instead, or more likely giving blowjobs to all the clerks at that grocery store. She was probably doing that anyways. I wouldn't have trusted "Skeeter" in a room full of rabbis and monks.

Naomi was quite annoying, but they did play it that way too. In the original NBC show, Naomi was Mama's next-door neighbor, who was a slut and she hated. And Vinton, who's first wife ran off to be a Vegas showgirl (no bullshit 14 ), was fresh off a divorce and seduced by Naomi. They got married quick much to Mama's chagrin, and of course the rest of the show.

Vint was a damn fool, and although lovable, I always thought it would've made more sense to just leave him single.

As for the show, when I was a kid, I thought it was great. Then you grow up... and suddenly the jokes aren't as funny as you remember. It was a good show, but not a great show - like Golden Girls.
