Re: Chinese Democracy plays on your Ipod/media players
Like I mentioned in the Black Hole section yesterday, I finally joined that Last FM site. When you join, you can have it load up all your music and after doing so it counts all your previous plays. After doing this, I was shocked when I looked at my GNR plays. Wasn't shocked by how few plays it had(I've said before I rarely listen to the album), but I was surprised by the order of the tracks. I have listened to This I Love and Prostitute more than any other GNR songs, and they're most definitely not my favorite songs on the album. If I was able to count listens on my car stereo, Riad would definitely top my GNR list. 
For shits and giggles, here's my GNR list and how many listens for each track....

I'm in shock that Since I Don't Have you made it on that list, and did so from TEN listens. All those listens must have occurred during one evening while stoned out of my mind because that's definitely not a song I would choose to listen to. Fuck, I barely listened to it back in the 90s when TSI was in heavy rotation.

I'm not up on last.fm yet but I'll pull up some of the play counts from Windows media player tomorrow.
My harddrive toasted a few months back so I'll probably have 0 plays for all GNR songs

I was going to start a thread like this a while back. I don't use last FM, but I went through my ipod playcounts a while ago and was really surprised at some of the results.
Although there's 2 additonal factors - I think if people use random a lot - i'm not sure how random the random is on some machines - it seems to prefer the same tracks of certain albums - but maybe that's my imigination - secondly - this is only play counts since my last install - and of course not in the pre-ipod era.
So stuff like AFD - i still listen to it - but I must have listened to each of those songs 1000 times growing up - so the true figures are much higher I think - and there's therefore a tendancy for new tracks to rate higher than traditional stuff.
So like for example the recent slash album is really high on my playcharts, and I love it, but if you looked at the chart in isolation you don't see that I loved snakepit 1 more.
I also think long songs have a disadvantage. As the song counts as played when it hits the end. So if i arrive at my destination in the car with 5 seconds left on estranged or twat it might not count. While a snappy song that happens less often.

Interesting results. And there's some telling facts about why I listen to music. For example, I think "This I love" is one of the most beautiful songs and tunes I've ever heard, but I rarely listen to it as it makes me get emotional for those I've lost. So i have to be in the mood. In contrast Scraped reminds me that even amazingly talented dudes like Axl have those moments where they don't believe in themselves, and it encourages me to get my act togehter in life. So I guess maybe that's a factor.
Also I love maddy, but i guess maybe i listened to the boots like 800 times and that's not shown on this list.....so yeah....i dont think they show what songs I like most overall.....but it's definately interesting.
