well, Patience is one of their top 5 biggest hits and is a Gnr radio classic with a great singalong outro. I would imagine lots of casuals want to hear it...especially the ladies. Why dump that and keep a slow KOHD cover that is more akin to the Dylan version? DJ could do Slash well on Patience.

I was listening to Eddie Trunk the other night on Sirius and Iron Maiden fans were calling up incensed with the setlist from their current tour. Eddie said Maiden fans are the harshest critics when it comes to the setlist subject, especially in the US. Apparently they aren't playing many of the hits this time around or other lesser known songs from their classic albums that diehards might enjoy. I'm not a big Maiden fan, so I can't comment on them. But it reminded me a lot about what goes on here with GNR. More new songs, less AFD, more UYI.
Eddie suggested that you do some research as a fan before purchasing tickets to a show. If you don't like what they're playing, or WHO is playing in the band, don't go.
Only problem I have with that being a GNR fan, is you don't know how many more times you'll get to see them. They've toured every 4 years on average since 2002, so it's tough to say, "I'll just catch them next time."

Maiden does these on and off tours with the hits and new material. One tour they might go thru all the hits while on the next they only do the new songs. It's actually a pretty good deal, but I think only a few bands can pull of that stuff and Maiden are one of the very few. Not a fan though, but wifey is.
