Re: Slash makes a small comment on Chinese Democracy

Hey All,

Slash did some interviews while in Australia for the MTV Classic Launch and promoting his new album. Of course he was asked about GNR and Chinese Democracy...

From Herald Sun Newspaper May 6, 2010.

Interviewer: "What did you think of Chinese Democracy, the first Guns N' Roses album without you?"

Slash: It's great. It's the perfect Axl record.

Interviewer: "That's very diplomatic"

Slash: "No, it is. Axl is brilliant. I look at it differently than your average fan, i look at it more from what he's about, and what it represents, and our relationship. I think it's a great record. It's very much the record I would have expected him to do."

I thought this was a good responce from slash.

Sure there is an element of diplomacy.

But I also think he's nailed something there. Like it's not the sort of record old guns would make, or something slash would have done, but as an expression of Axl's thoughts and a musical journey in it's own right it's a great record.

I also like to see Slash calling Axl brilliant and speaking highly of him.

I'm ok with old GNR choosing not to work together anymore, but it's sad when they run each other down, or seek to minimise the brilliance of the other members contributions. So this article made me happy.

GNR needs Slash more than Slash needs GNR.  Slash is already famous for being in GNR... GNR was only huge when Slash was in the band... Now GNR is like Whitesnake... Get Slash back in and you have a huge band again that extremely popular.

Why would that be? Even if Slash's solo album would turn out to be a complete flop (which doesn't seem likely given the sales it has already seen), why would he need a GNR reunion? I don't think money will be an issue.

Axl can still go platinum. Slash goes "Muir".

I'm sure Slash would love to be back in, and doing STADIUMS across the world, which right now, he is not.

I think when it comes down to it neither of them *need* the other.

Axl has demonstrated that he can release music and tour as GNR without slash. And Slash has also released music, and very much maintianed his brand value (GH3 etc) without Axl.

So neither of them *need* it, yet I don't think anyone would argue that if they did manage to end the war and work together well again, the results would be likely to dwarf what either of them can do alone.

But the thing is the details will always get in the way. Bottom line is Axl doesn't want to work with slash again for whatever reason that is, he'd prefer death it seems. Meanwhile slash doesn't want to come back on Axl's terms (paid employee, late starts etc). So it doesnt look like it will ever happen.

But even as seperate peformers, I wish we could all accept the kickassness of the other. So it's nice to see Slash recgonise Axl's ability, hopefully in the future Axl will also recgonise that slash isn't an every day guitarist also.
