Slash 'too scared' to call Yorke

Slash was desperate to collaborate with Thom Yorke on his new solo album - but he was too scared to approach the Radiohead frontman.

The former Guns N' Roses guitarist enlisted a slew of music stars to work on his upcoming self-titled record, including Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Motorhead's Lemmy, Kid Rock, Iggy Pop, Fergie and Ozzy Osbourne.

The musician had planned to ask Yorke to provide vocals for his track Saint is a Sinner Too, but he was too nervous to call the singer in case he turned down the offer.

He says, "The first calls I made were to the people I knew really well - like Iggy, Ozzy and Lemmy. I felt safe calling them. Then there were people like Kid Rock, who I'd jammed with at a bar. But asking the people I didn't know was daunting. I wanted Thom Yorke to do Saint is a Sinner Too, but I didn't have the balls to call him.

"I didn't think I could get him so a friend recommended Rocco DeLuca - who was an amazing discovery."

The track was eventually recorded with DeLuca, who fronts rock band Rocco DeLuca and the Burden, singing lead vocals.

I think Yorke is terribly overrated, but I'm probably in the minority on that. DeLuca is probably a better fit for that song anyhow.

I agree bri, Yorke doesn't do much for me. But he is a big name though and one of the pop stars of the era that also is given praise as an artist. He gets the fame, the success, and the credibility. Pretty good deal.

I absolutely LOVE Yorke and am very impressed that Slash would even consider him. Wow. Opportunity missed.....I have seen Radiohead 3-4 times and everytime Yorke is a knockout....amazing voice, killer guitar player, great on piano and passion to burn. To me, he is the best frontman of his generation...90's and 00's.....Maynard James Keenan and Jeff Tweedy second and third.

Makes me wonder if M.I.A. rejecting Slash caused him to reconsider asking others at that point.

Slash can probably only handle so many blows to his ego.....

Considering how much Radiohead sucks... yeah, I would've taken quite offense if I were Slash.

I can't believe RH gets their name put beside Pink Floyd & Led Zeppelin on rock band lists. Talk about a 64 oz. cup of Kool Aid.

Love Radiohead... "The Bends", "Ok Computer", "Kid A" would deffinitely be in of my favorite album lists.

Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails are two brilliant variations on a 90s/00s Pink Floyd.

peopel told me for years to listen to OK Computer as it was supposed to be a huge album, one of the best i was told...damn near bored me to tears TBH

i know alot of people love Radiohead but aside from a couple  tunes they are pretty blah if you ask me....

NIN and Radiohead being the modern version of PF? pa-lease, they both make me wanna puke...Reznor sucks, his whole career success is riding on the coattails of Head Like a Hole and Hurt IMHO

Neemo if you don't like either of them, that's fine, but NIN is far from coasting on HLAH and Hurt at this point. Most people don't even know Hurt is a NIN song and HLAH hasn't been relevant in well over a decade, even if it's still a fun song.

As for OK Computer I had the same reaction, also the reaction I had to Dark Side of the Moon. I'd say Floyd and Radiohead have a fair number of commonalities, but as a non-fan of both I can't elaborate.
