Re: Best Slash Moments out side of GNR (post 1991)
I listened to Contraband last night and Libertad today. Contraband fucking ROCKS! Straight up, in your face hard rock. I can see why D loves to work out to this album, its killer. Libertad is almost TOO polished. It does have some strong moments and some "good" songs. Slash has many tasty moments for sure, its just not as "rocking" as contraband. I think the Slash album has more balls than Libertad, and that alone makes it a better record. Contraband features a band that is pissed off and full of attitude, a remastered version mixed the way the Slash album is would be awesome for Contraband. One thing I must say is that Sorum's drumming on Contraband and Libertad is pretty fucking good. We give Matt such a hard time, but he did great on those two albums.

IFOCS is great, instrumentally. I can live with Dover's vocals.
Slash had moments in VR. Like Slither, Fall to Pieces, Messages and Psycho Killer (the last one clicked performance-wise, obviously). To me, VR was an immense disappointment as a whole, giving the combined songwriting potential.

Okay, granted Slash has done 'some' songs worth a damn since 1991. Very soulful, very good instrumental stuff, and certaintly not worthy of Axl's labeling of "hasn't done anything good since GN'R Lies".
The only thing I take exception with is, in one breath, "he's better than he's ever been", and the next "WTTJ & SCOM can't be topped"
Those two statements cancel each other out. I'm not saying Slash ain't got it, I just think some fans need to figure out where this guy is at as an artist, because "better than he's ever been" is T-total bullshit. That's like saying This I Love is better than November Rain or There Was A Time is better than Estranged. Obvious that's fanboy crap.

I don't want to speak for anyone, but they might be referring to his "live" playing being better than it's ever been since he's sober now. Everyone knows you can come up with some killer stuff when you're blitzed, but recreating that live sometimes isn't all that simple.

I'm anything but an Axl fanboy, but TWAT is right there with Estranged for me, and I LOVE Estranged.

I think that's possible, but even still, he seems like a sloppy live player. The sole exception of anything i've heard from him is, he seems to be able to play the AFD & Lies songs flawlessly.
Don't wanna sound like a dick, but I've pointed out several times the live version of Nothing To say, which on his new CD has some very technical and fast playing, and he plays it live at the Roxy gig almost flawlessly.
And on all the Roxy footage I've seen, his playing is tighter than ever, and that's not just old GN'R material either.
I think being sober has definitely improved his playing overall.
