I definitely think Street Child is one of his highlights. The solo just drips with emotion!!! Love that song!!!!
Fucking awesome song!

tbh the best thing he's done outside GnR was released in '91!
i'm talking about little mike's Give Into Me, of course..

I think Slash's best moments outside of GNR still need to be held to the same standard of his work in GNR.
Yes but likewise Slash's guitar parts in GNR should be judged against his GUITAR outside of GNR too. No point holding Slash accountable when the singer on a track lowers the standard of the song, just as it wouldn't be right to praise slash for instances where Axl kicks ass on a track.
In the other thread is was suggested that Slash's playing itself has declined since GNR days, and I think there's plenty of tracks out there that disprove that theory in relation to the guitar parts.
Some favs of mine:
Neither Can I
Mean Bone
Serial Killer
Soma City Ward
Dime Store Rock
Let it Roll
Sucker Train Blues
Vengance is Mine
Give Into Me
TJ Jail
Fields of Joy
I could go on...there's loads of them!

That's it in a nutshell. Slash isn't the problem, and anyone that thinks his playing has gotten worse probably doesn't play guitar or understand guitar. That isn't meant to be an insult, I just can't understand how anybody that appreciates quality guitar work could say Slash has gotten worse than he was when he was drunk/stoned all the time. Some of those videos from the show at the Roxy are pretty impressive technically, and that was live, not in a studio.

Nail meet head fellas.. Good points by both of ya'll... Welcome to the Jungle and SCOM are once in a life time riffs, you can't top those.... I forgot Vengence is Mine, rocking song for sure... And Tiajuna Jail (sp) kicks major ass too guitar wise.

I think Contraband was one of the best albums of the 00's. All the songs are really good to great, with DLT & Loving the Alien being a couple Slash A-listers that haven't been mentioned yet.
Yep, Contraband was very solid. I dig "You Got No Right" and "Loving The Alien" quite a bit. Libertad had some solid songs, but I was expecting a lot more from it. It was a leap backwards instead of progressing forward. I'd rate his solo album above Libertad slightly, but far below Contraband.
