It was awhile ago, so I certainly don't recall all of the details, but it seems to me that Santana's album took awhile to get off the ground.

Edit: That thought made me look it up.  According to Wiki (I know, not the greatest source) it took 18 weeks to get to #1 after debuting at #19.  I'm not saying this album will ever reach #1, but lets not bury it after one week.

True, but that album came out 10+ years ago when iTunes didn't exist and legal/illegal downloading wasn't what it is today.  If people love the Fergie tune, they'll simply buy the song off of iTunes.  The album may see a bump in sales but I don't foresee a Santana-like explosion.  Not in this day and age.

What about Independent? Not really. At least not in the spirit of an indie artist. Especially not with EMI on your side.

Napster and Kazza were the rage 10 years ago.  I downloaded more stuff illegally than now.

Umm, back in 98/99 I had classmates who were ripping full albums on Napster, then selling them at school for $5 bucks each.

It was a pretty big business then, and that's before the RIAA and Metallica stepped in.

Fine, but albums still sold shitloads more back then. That can't be disputed.  And not as many people had the means to download music back then.  Now my grandmother could probably figure out how to steal music.

I'm sticking to the theory that Fergie fans could care less about the other 13 tracks on the album.

Slash bounces Bieber from No. 1

The clean-cut sounds of Justin Bieber were rocked out of the No. 1 spot on the album charts by a long-haired guitar hero.

Slash's debut solo disc entered the charts at No. 1 with 14,000 in sales, bumping Bieber's "My World 2.0" to second spot, according to data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.

Slash's album features guest vocals by Ozzy Osbourne, Soundgarden's Chris Cornell, Maroon 5'™s Adam Levine, Motorhead's Lemmy, Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Kid Rock and Fergie.

The next three places on the chart were decidedly softer than Slash'™s debut effort. Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet Tour" (6,000) premiered at No. 3, while Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" and Lady Gaga's "The Fame" both dropped two spots, to No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

The Black Eyed Peas' "E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)" regained three positions to land at No. 6, Ke$ha's "Animal" occupied the No. 7 slot, and Hedley's "The Show Must Go On" moved up nine to No. 8.

Rounding out the top 10 was the "Now! 15" compilation and Usher's "Raymond v Raymond."

In the U.S., Bieber remained in top spot, followed by Usher in second, Slash in third, Lady Antebellum in fourth, and "NOW! 33" in fifth.
