I was listening to Triple M (poor excuse for a rock station here in Australia) the other day, and they had an ad for their countdown of great rock albums, and the had Back From Cali playing on the background, and it sounded REALLY good on the radio.

I reckon if it's released as a single it would do well, on Triple M at least.

First of all, Slash being in the popular music scene at this point in his career as a solo act is monumental. The guy was an afterthought 10 years, and through hardwork, determination, and smart marketing decisions has returned to the A-list of the music industry without hiding behind the GNR brand. There's absolutely no denying that.

Secondly, I have a feeling that BTS was chosen as a single because Stockdale was willing to help promote. It's a song that benefits both Slash's album & Stockdale name. Was Cornell willing to do the talkshow circuit with Slash? Not slagging on Cornell at all, just raising the point of finding a singer willing/wanting to sing the song night after night as Slash's second banana.

Great points.

Slash wanted to send a message to the old fans with the first single, that it's a Slash album. With the next singles he'll tell the rest of the world that it's a hit album. Back from Cali next to promote the tour, then Beatiful Dangerous, Gotten and I'll Hold On.

It was awhile ago, so I certainly don't recall all of the details, but it seems to me that Santana's album took awhile to get off the ground.

Edit: That thought made me look it up.  According to Wiki (I know, not the greatest source) it took 18 weeks to get to #1 after debuting at #19.  I'm not saying this album will ever reach #1, but lets not bury it after one week.

It amazes me they can predict with such accuracy after one day of sales. Last Wednesday, they said in the 50-60K range.
