^True enough. I just felt the whole time it would have been awesome with a good singer, but I was annoyed by Ferrell pretty quickly... and I'm a fan of his.
Also, I didn't know this until recently, but the pregnant chick that came up during that performance was Will Ferrell's wife who delivered that baby really shortly afterwards.

Obviously Ferrell was there for the joking matter of the whole thing. No different than the fact no one takes Jack Black seriously.
If they were gonna do something serious, there's plenty of singers that would've went on there, probably Johnny Van Zandt firstly.
That was the problem with the performance though. It wasn't funny. It was awful. If you're going to have Will Ferrell on, who has done some hilarious stuff on Conan's show, use him to your full advantage. Don't have him sing with serious musicians playing a farewell song. They were taking a light hearted approach to a serious moment and it just fell completely flat. They should've either gotten someone who could actually sing the song properly or let Will do his thing and what he's good at, being funny. They did neither and Conan had a forgettable finale to a forgettable run on The Tonight Show.

Are you inferring that I'm a Leno fan? Because that couldn't be further from the truth. I much prefer Conan and absolutely despise Leno for many reasons, most of which what he put Conan through. But I call it like I see it and that finale for Conan was AWFUL from the word go! The last performance was the capper. I sat there watching it and was like, "Really! THAT'S what you're gonna end with?" Like I said before Will Ferrell has done some amazingly funny stuff on Conan's shows and that was by far his worst performance.
