Since I got asked about LA Guns on the "introduce yourself" thread and since Axl Rose and Tracii Guns have played together in both GnR and LA Guns I thought I'd start a thread about the band since I don't see one already. Another fun fact, Gilby Clarke has also recorded and played live with LA Guns. He was credited as an additional guitarist on LA Guns "Shrinking Violet" which featured Jizzy Pearl on vocals. He has also played live with Tracii's version of LA Guns recently. Anyway, let's talk some LA Guns here.

I was never a hardcore fan of LA Guns, but that Cocked and Loaded album was great. Had some pretty good mainstream success with this album, but grunge pretty much prevented any follow up success. One of the more solid albums of 1989-90. Never Enough was my favorite song from the album.
Hard to believe there are two versions of this band now.

Cocked and Loaded was THE back to school CD for my senior year of high school. If you didn't have it, you either weren't a hard rock fan or you were broke.
It's a bit hard to believe there are two bands using the LA Guns name now but one of the things I find to be amazing about the band is that amidst all of the breakups and hiatus' taken by so many of their peers (even more successful peers) that the band persevered through the 1990s and continued to release new material and tour. What's more interesting to me is that the albums they put out after Phil Lewis came back to the band in 1999 are among the best in their catalog and the best in the genre IMO. "Waking The Dead" is an amazing album and the others from 1999 up to now are all quality albums.
Jimmy if I'm not mistaken I remember Jizzy played with Phil Lewis and Brent Muscat at some adult entertainment thing recently that was hosted by Ron Jeremy.

Waking the Dead is perhaps L.A. Guns' best. They have gotten better, and the real L.A. Guns is the band with Phil--period. L.A. Guns without Phil tanked. Tracii without Phil is tanking. Tracii without anyone big tanks. Just look at Brides of Destructions' second CD after Nikki Sixx left.
LAG is my favorite band, next to GNR. I've never seen em live unfortunately.

Good call on the Cocked & Loaded album. I had that as well, it was decent. Had Jayne on it. I mostly bought it to hold me over until UYI came out. Their followup album had a great song on it "It's over now" I always liked that song, very underrated but like you said grunge pretty much ended them. Funny you say that too, I remember they were on MTV's spring break in 1992 & broke into the 4 Teen Spirit chords in the middle of their set. They seemed cool about it, just playing around. I wish that was on youtube.

A lot of people feel that way in regards to the two band situation and particularly Phil Lewis being the voice of LA Guns. Personally I thought that "American Hardcore" was a great album and that both "Shrinking Violet" and Tracii's solo album "Killing Machine" were great but I do agree with you on the second Brides Of Destruction album.

I'm not sure there's any recordings of the two of them playing together outside of a YouTube clip of them playing with Shark Island @ Gazzaris in LA. The clip is a rather poor quality recording of them all doing a jam on a Led Zeppelin cover.
I interviewed Tracii Guns last year and I asked him how much of his songwriting actually shows up on the Guns N Roses records to which he responded: "I was involved in writing a few GnR songs but, I wouldnt say I wrote 1 complete piece of music for anything they have released. That band back then was a sum of all parts that stylistically just worked and I am really proud to be the GUNS in GUNS n ROSES."

Aside from that the only thing I can think of that I know Axl and Tracii appear together on is the 2004 Deadline Records release "Hollywood Rose: The Roots Of Guns N Roses" on which Tracii plays the guitar overdubs on the remixed songs.
