Twilight's leading man Robert Pattinson is set to play Kurt Cobain in a forthcoming biopic. The Sun reports that the British actor - known as R-Patz to his teen fans - has landed his "dream role" in the part of the Nirvana frontman.
Patttinson apparently "has always thought of himself as a musician rather than an actor" and so the role is "ideal for the pin-up", according to the paper's source.

David Fincher - the Fight Club director currently working on The Social Network, a film about the founding of Facebook - is believed to be in line to direct.
It was reported in February that Oren Moverman, writer and director of the double Oscar-nominated The Messenger, was lined up to take over a another Cobain-based project, with the brief of rewriting the script and then directing.
That film was said to be based partially on Charles R Cross' biography Heavier Than Heaven, which Love had already optioned.

Last Days is loosly based on Cobain...it was unofficial so some things were altered as they couldnet get approval from Love

cool i just got this for my birthday so it'll be interesting to see how well the movie follows the book, there is ongoing debate on how accurate the book is to Kurt's life (and subsequent death)
Kinda up in air about pattinson...he's terrible in Twilight movies but maybe thats just cuz the story (and script) are bad

Cobain is spinning in his grave. This dude blew his brains out, because he was convinced he was a sell out, and absolutely did not want to get anywhere near that category... yet the biggest fucking pussy, Hollywood-created, commercial male actor they can find, Robert fuckin' Pattinson, is gonna play him in a film.
Who's gonna play Courtney? Scarlett Johansson, another top-tier, total Hollywood starlet.
Who's gonna play Axl & Stephanie? Taylor Lautner and Megan Fox?

My interest in this just plummeted to below zero. Extremely overrated and no way in hell could she pull off such a transformation.

Now my interest just shot up through the roof. Fincher is one of my all time favorite directors(should have won an Oscar for Se7en), and I hope he has enough 'pull' in the project to get someone other than Scarlett.

Pattinson is next scheduled to appear as Edward Cullen in the next Twilight abomination, followed by a leading role in 'Bel Ami� , in which he'll play George Duroy, a sexy social climber in turn-of-the-century, 1890s Paris, who seduces his way to wealth and fame from a poor beginning. Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Cristina Ricci co-star. He will also star as Jacob Jankowski in the high-profile adaptation 'Water For Elephants,� based on the novel by Sara Gruen, starring Reese Witherspoon and the inimitable Christoph Waltz and directed by Francis Lawrence.
The last official word on the gestating Cobain biopic is that Oren Moverman is/was in talks to helm the picture. At the end of last month we reported that David Fincher had officially chosen "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" as his next project, despite speculation that he was circling the chess drama "Pawn Sacrifice" (it turns out he took a meeting as a consultant on that project).
However, our sources have told us today that not only is Fincher going to direct "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," he also has an option to direct the second book in the series, "The Girl Who Played With Fire." Apparently, Fincher is very keen on the second book as well and would love to tackle it; with our sources telling us he might even shoot the second book as the direct follow-up to "Dragon Tattoo." In fact, Fincher has been guaranteed a payout if he doesn't direct the second film, which suggests "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" would have to be awful enough that Sony asks him to leave the project which seems to be an unlikely scenario.
That said, he is likely waiting on the script from Steve Zaillian (who is actually only adapting one book; he is also an executive producer on "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo") before he even can fathom jumping into book two. And fyi, a separate source tells us Zaillian hasn't seen the current Swedish film adaptations and doesn't plan to, preferring to work directly from the books themselves, rather than be influenced by a movie many '” including us '” didn't love.
The books are massive, weighty affairs and we could definitely see why Fincher, who is known for his meticulous approach, might prefer to dive in all at once rather than break up his work on the films. In the first book, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" disgraced journalist/private investigator Mikael Blomkvist meets and teams up with trouble teen computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to solve the mysterious death of the niece of a Swedish industrialist. In the second book, "The Girl Who Played With Fire," Salander and Blomkvist tackle sex traffickers in Sweden. But these are really simplified loglines. The Swedish version of the first, uncut, runs three hours long while the second film runs two. We would wager that since this is clearly franchise material, it would probably be more financially sound to get both films in the can at once rather than having two separate productions. But just what happens, of course, remains to be seen.
While Carey Mulligan was previously rumored for the lead role of Lisbeth Salander, Fincher is instead considering going with a complete unknown for that role. The film is tentatively slated to begin production in the fall, most likely when press obligations for "The Social Network" wrap up. That will make two Sony pictures in a row for Fincher and it appears the studio will be the place he hangs his hat for the foreseeable future (the Paramount relationship now seems tarnished as they gave him grief for his three hour 'Benjamin's Button' cut, punished him by not greenlighting "Heavy Metal" '” which he took to Sony '” and also let the rights lapse to "Torso").
Fincher apparently also has a tentative male lead in mind for "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" and it's guy you may know named Brad Pitt. However, it's early days and who knows if the star would be interested and or would have time in his schedule.
There's also been rumors going round that Fincher's old sci-fi project, "Rendezvous with Rama" '” based on Arthur C. Clarke's novel; the author known for "2001: A Space Odyssey" '” which died in 2008 is back in active development and we've asked around and heard nothing so far. Perhaps another director is reviving it? Who knows...
