I always hated Cheers. I remember my mom and dad watching that show in the 80's, and I always made sure to leave the room while it was on. I watched other adult shows then(Jake and the Fatman, Dallas, Falcons Crest, Mike Hammer, etc.), but I just couldn't stand Cheers.

As far as theme songs go, I liked All American Hero, Welcome Back Kotter, One Day at a Time, What's Happening?, Alice.

I have a ridiculous uncanny ability to remember the theme to TONS of tv show theme songs only after hearing them a couple of times.  It at one point was to the point of being a party trick.  I can't do it as much anymore, or at least I haven't tried for a while.

Tv show themes have always been a pretty big part of pop culture, and give you that warm/fuzzy about certain times in your life, so I think the trend to not use them any more kinda sucks.  I really think it will be back and would compare going away from it to when guitar solos disappeared from music a while back only to reappear a short time later.

James mentioned Welcome Back Kotter, it made me think of this
