Oh really? If it's worse, go compare Finck's resume to Slash's. Then go compare Axl's to Cornell's.

For the record, Finck doesn't belong in a discussion with any of the above three mentioned.

How many albums did the Illusion's sell?

How many has Cornell sold in his entire solo career, plus Soundgarden, plus Audioslave?

Thank you and good night

Cornell thrown in a ring with Axl is like throwing MSL into a ring with Steve Austin long enough to eat a stunner in about 7 seconds.

I didn't know album sales=quality. If so, you must be a big time Britney Spears clitswinger and possibly president of her fan club.

To even make a comparison of Axl and Cornell to Slash vs Finck is fucking ludicrous, as the facts above clearly show.

No Ron Thal is. 16

I agree with sales don't equal quality, but on some level, a multi-marketable ability combined with musical ability, has to be measured on some level. Axl & Cornell are equally respected in rock, but we can all agree that Guns N' Roses left the bigger stamp on the genre, and not because of marketing (they are also unwanted in the beginning), but because they had better music plain and simple.

Alot of that music being written by Axl, Slash & Izzy. Other than Audioslave, Cornell's post-Soundgarden career is just as much of a fucking trainwreck as the rest of them.

I prefer Axl, obviously, but to say Cornell is a better writer is a stretch. The playing field is level if anything. Just because Timbaland is calling up Cornell for an album doesn't mean he's relevant at all. Axl would've been FAR more relevant in 2008, had he actually walked from Backdoor Sluts 9 long enough to promote his album.

The last Audioslave album went Gold, and the last Cornell album was a disaster with even his hardcore fans.

I don't see this "brilliance" you see. Or at least on a level to say he smokes Axl. Maybe not with CD (I thought the lyrics were kinda average... I could've wrote them), but back in the day, I thought Axl was a brilliant lyricist. Far more than Cornell or anyone else, despite Axl's love for SG. Cornell can write music, definitely, but i'd take Axl's lyrics & definitely vocals.

Saying that Axl is a much better song writer is a joke in and of itself.  You do realize that writing a song means writing the whole thing right?  How many of those has Axl written compared to Cornell?

Bringing up Scream doesn't prove shit.  He made an album that wasn't that good, at least he releases music.  And it doesn't take him long to do it either.

You want to bring up Timbaland?  At least Cornell picks someone relevant to work with and not Baz, who isn't even halfway relevant to anything that is going on.

Euphoria Morning however, was incredible.  He wrote most of it by himself I might add.

I'd also like to add that Chris hasn't written the same song about the same person over and over.  With Axl, we got This I Love, Street of Dreams, Better, etc, all about how heartbroken he is.

With Cornell we get songs that span a huge range.  He refuses to put himself in a creative comfort space and continually tries to expand his borders.

I want to see Axl get on stage with an acoustic guitar and deliver a show half as good as Cornell can.  Please, prove me wrong.

Where are all these "Slash monsters" after 1991 other than in the imagination of Slash fans?

Bah, the same thing could be said about Izzy. I actually believe Slash has put out a couple of monsters after 91 (Neither Can I, Beggars, Slither, FTP, Serial Killer, ..., not counting anything from the new album yet), but that's obviously just my humble opinion. In the same vein, I find Izzy's solo work a total snooze-fest. His slower songs are boring and his rock songs lack oomph.

For me, Izzy's solo work is about as interesting as Cornell's solo work: not at all (although I consider both very talented). So the fact that you dismiss what I think are great accomplishments as "my imagination", man... not something I would've said...

You have to look at the overall context of that post. I was replying to someone referring to these "Slash monsters"(Locomotive and Coma)while claiming Izzy's major role in the band was a "myth". While I like 4 of the 5 songs you listed, I certainly wouldn't classify them as "monsters"(well, maybe Slither) and certainly nowhere near the level of that 87-91 work.

Never said Izzy's solo work was mind blowing. In my opinion his only great solo album was the Ju Ju record. I can live without the rest.

Obviously we are all Slash fans to varying degrees, but I've always thought it was funny how his post GNR work always gets raved on at key moments. They usually coincide with Axl activity or a new Slash release. Hell, every time a CD leak happened, Slash's "flock" was around telling us how VR was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Of course we had to be informed of this sliced bread in the main GNR section while the VR section rotted, to the point where it essentially had to be re-branded into a Slash section. 16

I'll say one thing, Slash has an awesome "unofficial" street team. 14

Edit: This post isn't meant as a dig at hardcore Slash fans. Just an observation. Besides, this thread jumped the shark on page one so take that into consideration.....

There are people who like both. However, both men are very polarizing figures with tons of drama between the two, and the fan base feeds off the soap opera aspects. It's only natural for people to pick a side. While I prefer Axl, Slash does have some kick ass tracks, mainly on that first Snakepit record. VR blows in my opinion and only has a small handful of good tracks even though they released two albums.

That song Messages was killer and deserved a proper release. Also loved their cover of Psycho Killer.
