And I totally buy Axl's remark about Slash not wanting to work that hard at making music. That's Slash's problem, from my perspective, going back to the Snakepit albums to this album. He just doesn't sound like he's trying. He's just playing, and it totally hits me as uninspired; just another middle-aged rock dude just making a rock album, not pushing the envelope.

Said the guy who hardly ever went to a rehearsal, and only occasionally turned up in the studio. Axl is the lazy rockstar, who wants others to write songs for him and the completes the lyrics in half a year. Axl spent more than a decade 'working' on an album, that SUCKS musically, except a few BH solos. CD's boring and unercognizable. There is not a single riff worth a mention, on a 'rock' album. What a joke. Nobody can tell which band is playing, without hearing Axl, while the old GN'R songs took 2 seconds to recognize. I remember hearing some music in the radio and I knew it was Slash's playing. Well, it was the first time I heard Ain't It Fun.

it sucks musically to you because you don't like the guitars. However, as I stated earlier, the keyboards, orchestration, drumming, an bass are excellent. So, it doesn't suck musically to me and others. The album actually needed less guitar so the underlying quality could "breath". The guitars were too layered and eventually just drowned out the quality beneath the surface.:(

Yeah, well, I disagree with all of this 16

Showing up to practice and pushing your musical abilities are two totally different things. Like getting your guitarist to work on songs like NR and Estranged when he doesn't want to. And wanting people to write songs for him... Well, I think it worked out pretty killer for him. And from what he brought to the band, that worked out pretty well for him, imo, too.

I think musically CD is fantastic.

I think the whole point of not wanting to do the same thing over and over, was.... the whole point. Axl said people would hear CD and it wouldn't sound like a GNR record, or song, so that's kind of what he was aiming at. Which is much more ballsy than doing what you've already done over and over.

If you like riffs, great. But riffs are not the end all be all and do not always equate into great rock music. See AC DC over the years.

That is because Slash is the only player to really get Axl and he had the perfect feel to push Axl's lyrics.  Bumble, Bucket, etc are FAR superior in pure skill, but are way behind in feel and chemistry with mr. Rose.  Put Slash on CD, where he is 100% focused, and you have a chance for an epic album.  And you would have had better rockers with better riffs.  CD is good as it is, but I feel with Slash, would have been better...  There are a couple killer guitar moments on the albums, but they are too few and far between.

that's a whole different can of worms....I just want quality music and don't need "riff" rock all the time.

there are definitely a few spots where I would want Slash on guitar.

Mikka, this is my biggest problem with you, that you state your opinions as fact. Rock is not held to any rules. It's THE most diverse genre in music and that's why I love it.

I don't think I'd state my opinions as facts more than anyone else here. For you, madagas and some others Guns N' Roses is Axl Rose and without him, it wouldn't be Guns N' Roses. Right? For me he's not enough. The brand name is not enough. It's not McDonald's that remain McDonald's forever and doesn't matter who is there to make the meal.

No, I never state anything as me being right and evryone else who disagrees as being wrong. Guns N' Roses would be be Guns N' Roses with whoever had the rights to the name. I just wouldn't be interested in it without Axl.

I would have no problem with Slash being in the new band! I mean DJ is pretty much a Slash wannabe. Why not have the real thing? If everybody checked their ego at the door, it would work. Just Slash and Axl would legitimize it as the real deal to the public.
