Well Snakepit 1 sounded like GNR except without Axl's abilities and without the izzy type songs. Snakepit 2 was pretty much standard slashy riffs except with a bit more modern dancy type beats and feel to the songs. It's quite logical that his solo album would be similar...basicly the snakepit albums were solo albums except using a fixed band for each track and only working within the confines of that.
I think you guys are being a bit harsh, the evidence still suggests to me that overall listening to this album will be cool. Watch this is cool even tho i dont like instumental tracks, by the sword is really catchy and cool, it really grew on me, and from what we've heard of the fergie track it sounds cool. I think it will be a good album.
In all fairness, we're all just giving our initial reactions so some will be good and some not so good. And lots of those will change over time. I can't honestly say I liked every "Chinese Democracy" song the first time I heard them, and now I love them all. In fact it's rare I hear a song and love it right away. So after one listen, I'm not a big fan of this Ozzy tune. Both "Ghost" and "I'll Hold On" didn't meet my expectations, with 2 and 1 listen respectively. "Starlight" though, I liked right off the bat. So that's really not a bad start as far as I'm concerned.

Faldor, you are a fair critic.. Guitar playing so far for me has be top notch, but like others, sometimes its the singers that keep the song from being great, but like you said, once we get the album and can listen in the proper setting, our opinions may change.

^ Yeah my only issue with Big Machine is it's too repedative and lacks a killer solo. It's got a nice riff and some coolness to it though.

It's certainly not a stand out track on CB, but it's not bad either. I like the lyrical content.
Which is a lot more than I can say about this album so far.

I agree. I don't understand why Slash wanted it to be the first single.

Hmmm... a bit undecided, but it sounds like a typical modern Ozzy track, with Slash on guitars. But hey, at least there isn't overused harmonic pinch squeals like Zakk seems to do in every Ozzy track.
Probably the worst Slash solo of all the tracks I've heard so far.
I find the lyrics interesting though, some digs at Axl perhaps - "we used to be brothers"?

Meh... I like the guitar work. Hits me the same as the preview. More cheesy Ozzy. Slash isn't the weak link on the album its his choices and direction.
It would probably be a lot more interesting if Cornell was on every track, as long as the songs weren't all about his children.
