i'd tend to veer more towards Slash being more inspired in the context of a song per se, and taking the lead from a vocalist to push his buttons.

He didn't take the lead from the vocalists from the interviews I've seen. He's said these songs were written before the vocalists were involved.

slash has always been full band oriented...besides why do a niche album for a few hundred when you can make an album that will appeal to the masses?

you guys go on spewing about selling out and shit but thats why these guys exist...

in the words of maynard james keenan,

"All you know about me is what I've sold you, I sold out long before you ever heard my name. I sold my soul to make a record, And you bought one."

slash has sold millions and millions of records, as has Axl Rose, there is nothing left to sell out, they already have...years ago

To be honest, this album has way too many ballads on it.  And so far, most of the rock tracks don't even stand out at all.  The M. Shadows one is pretty cool sounding.

I think the most promising track off this album will be the instrumental.

I'm underwhelmed with those clips.  I thought the Iggy Pop one would be better.  The Cornell one is a little disappointing.  The Kid Rock one sounds like everything off of his last album, just with better guitar work.

It's sad when the track that stands out a lot is the one with Fergie, and it's not even that great.

Slash is a team-player. I have yet to hear an instrumental guitar album that is not boring, and I play guitar.

It's funny that Slash has 13 singers on his album, yet none of them is good enough for some. Guess they can only accept Axl, although they wouldn't want a reunion, cause 'Axl doesn't need Slash'. Maybe. But as it seems for sure Slash doesn't need Axl, just somebody better than Scott Weiland to write catchy and great songs. On his album he has a lot of better singers. I would love to hear a full Slash/Stockdale, Slash/Kennedy or Slash/DeLuca album.

This album will be great.

It doesn't make Slash a 'team player' if he wrote the music, then sent it off to singers to see if they liked it.  It's not like he was actively collaborating with them during that process.

You play guitar?  Then your expert opinion must mean that all guitar albums are boring.  Give me a break, there are some amazing guitar albums out there that aren't the least bit boring.

All instrumental guitar albums are boring for me. However I enjoy every minute of some guitar driven albums, like AFD, but I wouldn't like these as much as I do without vocals.

BTW Slash did work together with some of the artists on the songs (Stockdale, Shadows etc.): he wrote it, then they changed it together to fit better; while in other cases it seems he accepted what the singer brought to the table (Iggy, Kid Rock).

Very impressed with those clips. Beautiful Dangerous, Crucify the Dead, Back from Cali, Doctor Alibi, and Paradise City the turds of the bunch.

The Cornell track isn't what I was expecting unfortunately.

That Cornell track is astounding from that 10 second preview. You cannot expect the man to relive past glories. That ain't how Chris works. It sounds completely original to me to be honest.

What in that post insinuates I wanted him to "relive past glories" on this album? All I wanted was a kick ass rock tune, and that's not asking too much with the two names attached to the track.

Doesn't matter though....I didn't get it.

Listened to those clips again, and judging by those, gotta say Ghost is the best of the bunch.

I'm probably going to pick and choose songs on iTunes I want, and it might end up being just a couple. The instrumental for sure.

Same here. Not a huge fan of Itunes but I do use it sporadically, and the format is perfect for records like this.

Yep...that's pissed me off.....well not pissed off...but I do totally disagree. big_smile

Slash lacking confidence? Ever notice the dude pushing to the front of the stage, leaning into the audience,  playing his guitar up next to his face? Not like he's hiding his ability on guitar very much. Think about all the solos in GNR, are they subtle textures added in the background to the songs? No they're rip roaring blatent guitar solos often ending it feedback. Slash is fucking good on guitar and he knows it.

But I also think he knows where his talent lies and what he likes. He kicks serious ass in a traditional rock context, ala, aerosmith, ala AFD, and while he's happy to bring that to other genres in a guest spot, there's no point him playing in bands serious aiming outside of that, it's why he had issues with Chinese Democracy in the planning phases when it was industrial, it's just not what he does.

He's said before in interviews he has no interest in trying to play like Steve Vai and those type of virtuoso guitarists, that even though he appriciates the talent of guys like that, what excites him is an old school rock band playing loud.

Now sure, I guess you could say to an extent it's lack of ability, like a technician like bumblefoot, vai or whatever is probably better at some specific skills to make specific sounds for a purerly instrumental album. Like i'm sure bumble can play faster than slash, and i'm sure slash will bring something different bumble can't do to a song. Everyone is different. it's two different styles.

it's just a different thing. It like critizing the world's best doctor because he's not the world's best lawyer. What slash does is bring the motherfucking rock to a traditional band, bring that old school lead-guitar interacting with a lead vocalist...and he does it damn well.

I think the concept of this album is GREAT because, let's face it, sometimes people can work together to create something great, but their skills limit each other in the long term. For example, I think some of the VR songs are really good, i really really enjoy a few of them. But i'd hate to see slash tied to working with scott forever. Because while those songs are great, scott doesn't have a scream like Axl and he only writes in a certain style and so on. Same with the wolfmother guy. He has that distinctive 70s voice, and it suits slash's work. But a whole album of that voice would get grating to my ears. And kind of repedatitive. Better to get the best couple of tracks. What we have here is the best of the worlds. We can see what slash would do with some of the greatest singers ever - without needing to be stuck with them in bands forever and all the politcs that comes from running a band.

I'm pumped for this album!

that true although id imagine he might have done the solos after the vocals were done?

as it is axlin08 has something of a point but i'll still be near the front of the line for this solely because slash again sounds like he has a point to prove & something 2 say..
