As long as we get a new Soundgarden album, Pearl Jam can become the Grateful Dead for all I care.

There's something us SG/Cornell nutswingers need to take into consideration before going off the deep end either regarding the silence or the path they choose to take.....

Cornell NEVER said the band reunited. Did the media and fans interpret the statement as such? ABSOLUTELY.  Did Cornell say that? NO. Like Axl, you have to dive deep into the wording of his statements. Its been like this for ages. These guys have danced around the issue for years.

The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!

That could mean anything. Obviously we have reasons to be excited, but nowhere in that statement does it mention reunion, tour, or a new album.

The most likely scenario is they took a low key approach to see how things go without there being insane expectations behind it. These guys were literally at each others throats the last time they were together, and that bad blood could rear its ugly head again.

I'm not really excusing the silence as I do think he should be updating fans through Twitter(or a press release), but this is an unusual situation for them to be in.

Agreed.

I was listening to Cornells songbook session at the troubadour the other day, and he made mention of rehearsals ... Ill have to track down a video on youtube.

Reunion or not, Cornell seems to be taking a more experimental approach to music these days.
The Timbaland thing was a bad idea but I think it opened his eyes to experimentation

This track with Italian group Gabin:

is amazing if we get more of this type thing from Cornell I won't need an SG reunion.

The thing that gives me the most heart was the second update where they clarified Ben Shephard was involved. That to me points to a lineup which means they are playing shows. Hiro would likely feature on an anthology or career boxset so why the need to clarify Shephards involvement unless they are doing something?

As for a new album - very exciting if true, although I do hope they don't tarnish what is a spectacular and unrivaled back catalogue (see Janes Addiction's "Strays" for a perfect example of how to destroy a legendary back catalogue)

Is it possible we could be in for a rarities album with 3-4 new songs? Either way, I'll be listening keenly 9

Rumors have been running rampant on Twitter since yesterday that Soundgarden will be a surprise performer at SXSW tonight in Austin, Texas.  Remember, like with all Soundgarden rumors, don'™t ever get your hopes up.  I'™m just reporting what I see. Cornell also tweeted a very vague statement yesterday, 'Everyone make a thousand wishes in the dark.'   Keep in mind SXSW goes until Sunday so it could be on Saturday or Sunday.  Here are some tweets:

If Thayil is out of his cave, that means something is happening. Might not be this specific show, but something is definitely on the horizon.

Thayil surfacing is the best news since the reunion was announced....
