Re: Soundgarden reunites
Okay, for anyone who is the least bit anxious about Cornell's vocal abilities when concerned with the higher parts for Soundgarden songs, start listening around 4:30. You will be amazed.
Re: Soundgarden reunites
I'm one of the few that has NO worries about his abilities when this reunion gets underway. The guy brings his "A Game" and I just don't give a shit about the complaints spanning many sites about what Cornell is capable of.
He's already proven what he's capable of. I listen to it on an almost daily basis.

Soundgarden will not be touring in May.
I hate how we have to try and guess their touring schedule by looking at when PJ are touring.

Yeah, the Cameron situation definitely needs to be resolved on both ends. Also, the mystery act is getting old. I didn't like Axl doing it for over a decade, and Cornell doesn't deserve a free pass either. The band has officially been reunited since Jan. 1st, and other than those two generic emails sent out promoting ancient singles, we've heard NOTHING. Cornell is very active through his sites(official, myspace, twitter), yet has been pretty quiet since he announced this.
The latest Cornell news is him performing on a jazz album....

and of course the Slash album.
If Soundgarden cant become his top priority, he should just pull the plug and not dick around his fans. People have waited years for this, and if he's gonna turn it into some mini Chinese Democracy, just fuck off with the whole thing.
The box set and/or live album can be released without a reunion.
Re: Soundgarden reunites
Soundgarden indirectly screwed over a bunch of people here in the Northwest with their touring silence. For some reason the Sasquatch Festival put tickets on sale before announcing the lineups. This was the first time the festival had ever done this. Naturally, rumors starting floating that Soundgarden & Faith No More would be headliners. The festival even had a party at the old Crocodile Cafe in Seattle to announce the lineups & everyone assumed Soundgarden would make an appearance to stoke the fire. Turns out Massive Attack, Ween, and MY Morning Jacket are the headliners for probably the weakest Sasquatch lineup to date. I'm just glad I wasn't one of the people who jumped the gun on buying tickets cause of the seemingly plausible rumors.
Re: Soundgarden reunites
Yeah, they're walking on very thin ice. If it was going to move at this pace with no activity, Cornell never should have announced it in the first place. They could have done nothing behind the scenes.
Also, there doesn't seem to be much general interest in this reunion, which is quite troubling and may actually be playing a role in how this is playing out. However, they are partly to blame in that disinterest as the announcement was backed by zero substance.
Three months in, they should already have a few performances at Seattle clubs under their belt to generate a buzz in the rock community, followed by news either on the touring front or a progress report on the box set or new material.
Instead........ zilch.
Nice strategy. Pretty soon I'm gonna start wondering if Beta and Del James are running things behind the scenes.
Re: Soundgarden reunites
Maybe Beta's decided to take on a side project and manage Soundgarden. Hope Cornell doesn't marry her too. Though that make us more likely to see a Cornell/Axl collaboration.
James, I think the lack of general interest in this is all their fault. There was a ton of interest the year prior. It seemed like there was a new rumor every week about Soundgarden. And then they come out and make an announcement at the beginning of this year and everyone is excited to see them again and wondering if they can still pull it off, especially wondering if Cornell still have the vocal range and stamina required to pull off a Soundgarden show.
And through all this excitement and buzz, not one fucking word from them. This picture would look a lot different if the ones in charge of the artistry had taken control of it and not left it to the public decide what it would look like, because without something crammed down our throats every 10 minutes, we as a culture easily forget and move onto the next thing.
Whoever is behind this silence bullshit is seriously messing up. In our culture, you can't have silence like this and expect there to be a huge buzz and interest. If they start making announcements, keeping fans updated, maybe hold a press conference with all of them their, do interviews, post on twitter, post on their website, make a youtube video, release an unheard song to wet fans' appetites, get on a forum and talk, tell fans they are in the studio working hard on an album, announce tour dates..... they have a huge pool of options to choose from but silence is not one of them.
I find it hilarious that my two favorite bands seem to operate in the same manner.
I think it's time to shit or get off the pot. Release the b-sides and demos and call it a day.
Re: Soundgarden reunites
Latest rumor from some Seattle sources is that SG are in the studio.
Cornell has been in Seattle a lot the past couple months, but doesn't live there, so it would seem to make sense.
