Re: Pink Floyd Wins Court Battle With EMI
This is a step in the right direction, at least as far as Pink Floyd is concerned.
The new generation is even more obsessed with singles that albums like those that PF released suffer greatly when just one or two songs are downloaded off of each album. I'm glad PF ended them selling single songs off their concept albums.
This wouldn't work for new bands though, and honestly shouldn't happen the same way. There's a huge leap from PF to newer bands today and it's found in the albums they produce. Artists now are even more focused on putting out singles and then just filling up the rest of the album and not caring too much.

I like this. I saw an argument against it yesterday saying "Yeah, but what about the guy that just wants Comfortably Numb? He's just gonna illegally download it now"
Pink Floyd have sold that many albums, it wont make a difference

Re: Pink Floyd Wins Court Battle With EMI
Yeah i think this is just straight about the contract rather than the philosophy really. They had a contract with the record copmany to only put out albums not singles in all the formats that existed at the time. A new format comes along and the record company wanted to apply new rules to it...but it's obvious that the band would have only agreed to the old rules had they imagined such a format.
EMI wont be making this mistake again though, you can bet your ass future deals will include phrases that cover them for changes in technology.
