I think every major act should do this.  I guess the record company helps get them to a large audience, but once that happens, the fans will seek you.  New acts should sign a 2 album deal - 3 at most - and then release their own music.  They will make more money and it will cost us less to support them.

That's why they sign 2 or 3 album deals.  Get the exposure from the label to make it, then do your own thing.  The labels can exist, the band can exist and the fans can get treated better than they are right now.
