Morrissey stopped a concert halfway through the second song after he was hit by a missile thrown from a member of the crowd in Liverpool.
The former frontman of Manchester band The Smiths recently resumed his tour after collapsing three weeks ago.
During his song, Black Cloud, at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday, the 50-year-old was hit in the eye by a plastic drinks container.
The singer said "goodnight" to the 8,000-strong crowd and walked off.
Morrissey had opened the concert with the words: "It's Saturday, it's Liverpool, it's raining, it's perfect", before launching into the Smiths' hit This Charming Man.
" He's a 50-year-old man who has just been ill and he deserves better than that "

But when he moved to shake the hands of fans at the front, the bottle was hurled from the crowd.
When he walked off stage fans burst into chants of "Morrissey, Morrissey, Morrissey" in an effort to get the performance back on track.
But about five minutes later an announcement was made to a chorus of boos that he had been hit on the head and would not be resuming the concert.
Jay Silker, 27, from Mossley Hill, Liverpool, said: "If there's ever a singer who would not take kindly to a bottle being thrown at him, it's Morrissey."
Iain Kavanagh, 33, from Liverpool, said: "Some people were complaining afterwards because he's been in the game for years and he should be used to it by now.
"But he's a 50-year-old man who has just been ill and he deserves better than that."
Concert-goers have been advised to contact their ticket retailer to find out if they will get their money back.
Ever thrown anything at a stage? I cant understand this behaviour, I've seen it at almost every show and....why???
I say almost every show, cause I've never seen it happen in really small venues where the weasle has no hiding place.

yeah someone threw a beer @ Phil Anselmo when i saw Pantera in Detroit in 2001..he told the guys in the crowd to beat the fuck out of him...and they did
saw the Verve Pipe in 1997 (i think) they were running their mouth before the show that canadian music sucks...beffore playing at a canadian festival...someone threw a bottle at him during the second song and knocked him out...its the only time i felt that throwing shit was justified but because of that i almost missed I Mother Earth
Re: Missile throw ends Morrissey show
Yeah throwing shit at the stage is stupid. I understand bras and flags and stuff that aren't gonna do any harm to anyone but projectiles is fucking stupid and low class. I remember seeing Gn'R in Edmonton in 1993. Someone threw something at the stage and Axl calmly gave a little speech asking people to show respect and not throw stuff cause nobody wants to get hurt. Litterally like 3 seconds after(they hadn't even started playing again) he said that, a roll of toilet paper came flying from the upperdeckcs and landed on the stage. I thought the show was done for sure but either Axl didn't see it or he didn't care cause the show went on. Not that a roll of toilet paper could really do much amage but it was the principle of it all. It's like that douche threw it to test Axl. Fucking losers.

Throwing stuff like underwear, t-shirts and hand made cloth signs with the band logo (eg Ritz 88) is kind of a sign of respect to the band , and can be done safely for the peformers.
Anyone who throws something potentially dangerous or gross, eg drinks, bottles, piss, sharp objects, heavy objects, sold non soft-objects is an utter fuckhead, is disrepecting the band, his fellow patrons, and generally a loss to humantity.
While it sucks that 1 fuckhead can potentially bring down a show being enjoyed by thousands of other well behaived punters....i think peformers should just have a strict zero tollerance policy on it.
It's bullshit that can not and should not be tollerated. I'd wish for venue security, and those around any offenders, to do their best to detain such people too, so that they can actually be fined or something.

Not very smart from Anselmo.
Throwing things at performers. Not cool.
Instigating bodily harm. Even less cool.
Two wrongs don't make a right, and Anselmo was very, very careless when asking for something like that.
Re: Missile throw ends Morrissey show
Someone threw a cup of beer at Axl in Glasgow, it landed right at his feet at the front of the stage. He picked a towel up off a moniter and started mopping it up, whilst still singing, then a roadie came over with more towels and took over.
My heart was in my mouth, he must've took a soaking, and I thought he might call it a night and go home. There was a couple of arseholes shouting in the audience that night as well, and Axl took a couple of verbal potshots at them too. It was nerve racking stuff for me incase he pulled the plug, even after 2 songs he had to call for the lights and try calm down the crowd cause of a mass crush at the front. I was in it, and couldnt help but notice when he asked people to move back the pressure at the front increased, obviously cunts further back thinking it was funny to start pushing forwards. I feared the night was going to turn into a disaster, all on account of a few wankers.
I remember waiting for Iron Maiden to come at a gig, beer and cups of water kept getting chucked at the stage and the roadies were trying to mop it up. Whenever they finished, another cup would come flying in. They wernt tring to hit anyone, they just thought it funny to throw shit at the empty stage.
This huge guy came out, he must've been Chief Roadie, and grabbed a microphone shouting "Are you lot fucking stupid?! Water and electricity - not a good fucking combination. Wisen the fuck up. Thank you!" Actually babysitting the audience like Axlin08 says, ridiculous.
During the show, Bruce was at the front of the stage and someone threw a cup of water over him, it completely soaked him. He just licked his lips and said "Water? You fucking little pussy!"
