Those are good specs, especially for that price, but I'd never buy a 17" laptop. Kinda defeats the purpose for me: carrying it around smile.

As for TextEdit vs. Wordpad... meh... they're both inadequate smile.

gedit is a great code editor, but it's not really a word processor, not even a light one smile. I use openoffice, although I like the look and feel of abiword.

Converted the dollars to pounds and the cost was only £798.60!

For a laptop with that spec, at least in the UK that would be a bargain. Not sure about how that's priced compared with other similiar systems in the US though.

Thats the only thing thats holding me up.  But I cant find any 15's with comparable specs.
