He's not an asshole.
He's a fucking piece of shit.
From a Yankee fan.
I like your honesty, although I think your words are a bit strong.

Re: The Phillies get to take on THE YANKEES!!
Speaking of the Red Sox, it was a shame to see the Curse of the Bambino end in 2004. It's like a trainwreck. You know you shouldn't watch, but you just can't look away. The Cubs are like that too. Pretty funny to see those curses last so dang long.
Re: The Phillies get to take on THE YANKEES!!
Oh well, the Yankees won. The Phillies had a great season though, and have a solid lineup going into next year. I think everyone will be back, aside from the bullpen & likely Pedro. They do have a great young pitcher in the minors (Kyle Drabek, son of Pitt Pirate Doug Drabek) who will almost certainly be in the starting 5, and if Cole can get back we should be set there. There's a HR hitting OF in the minors too, for the bench (get rid of Matt Stairs). So all we need is 2 or 3 solid relievers, one being a closer.
Sucks the Yankees won, but they won it. I agree the Yankees Red Sox is played out. Although I sometimes do get into them. I think the Big 10 does get hype, but personally I think the SEC gets equal or more coverage. Although, admittedly I think the SEC is better than the Big 10 anyway.
At least it's Cowboys week here. Dallas Sucks!!
Re: The Phillies get to take on THE YANKEES!!
If I see one more tv spot on A-Hole I'll puke......fuck A-Rod. All the praise and attention should go to Pettitte, Jeter, Posada and Rivera. Homegrown ball players who came up in the Yankee organization. Congrats to them on their fifth ring. A-Rod should be giving some of his overpaid bank account to those cats.
Re: The Phillies get to take on THE YANKEES!!
Jeter's something else. The 14 years prior to Jeter: 0 Championships. The 14 years with Jeter: 5 Championships.
Not saying it's ALL due to him, but he'll be remembered as part of the Yankee legacy & this era's "winning years".

Spot on on Arod. I read parts of Joe Torre's bio a month ago at a Barnes and Noble. Arod comes off as a gigantic douchebag and phony in that book.

Sigh. Doug Drabek a pitcher for the Pirates when they actually won division titles. Glad to see his son turn it around as I think he had problems a few years ago. Which HR hitting minor league OF are you talking about for the Phillies--Dominic Brown or Michael Taylor? They have the luxury of having two of them along with Jason Werth, Ibanez, and Victorino at the major league level. Ideally, one of them should replace Ibanez after his contract expires. There are several closers on the market--Soriano, Valverde, Gonzalez--and a few in the trade market too. The performance of relievers fluctuate, so I'm always wary of tossing big cash at middle relievers.
SEC is better than Big Ten though, they have won the last 3 National Championships. Big Ten always comes up short in Major Bowl Games (OSU
championship in 2002 withstanding) and their weaknesses always get exposed
(lack of athletes, explosiveness, speed etc.)

Re: The Phillies get to take on THE YANKEES!!
I have a lot of respect for the SEC. They kick everyone else's ass in bowl games. My school Texas Tech has had our "explosive offense" shut down by two SEC schools at the Cotton Bowl in recent years: Alabama and Ole Miss. How many times do we have to watch the likes of Oklahoma and Ohio State get their teeth kicked in by the SEC? SEC rules. And I say that as a graduate of a Big 12 school.
As for the comment about Jeter, I think Rivera has been more important for those 5 titles than Jeter. Jeter is a great player, no doubt, but Rivera is probably the best closer ever. Turn out the lights, the party is over when he comes into the game. In effect, this shortens the game for the Yankees. As long as they can get a lead by the end of the 7th inning, they have about a 90% chance of winning even if he pitches both the 8th and 9th innings. And if they have the lead after 8 innings with Rivera only pitching the 9th inning, their odds of winning probably go up to 95-98%. He's that damn good, ESPECIALLY in the playoffs.
Re: The Phillies get to take on THE YANKEES!!
I'll do you one further tejastech (and I'm a Red Sox fan by the way), I think Rivera may in fact be the best PITCHER of all time. It's insane what he's been able to do for the last 11 years or whatever as a closer. Closers usually have a shelf life of 5-7 years and then they see a dropoff, sometimes so dramatic that they're forced to retire. He's been at the top of his game every season and shows no signs of slowing down. He's been the one constant in the Yankee bullpen through their run and gives them so much stability at the end of games. He can get 2 inning saves with more ease than most closers can get one out. And he's done it all with ONE pitch. How good is that one pitch that nobody's been able to figure it out after all these years? It's just utterly ridiculous how good he is.
And Jeter's damn good too! I used to hate Jeter back when there was the big Nomar vs. Jeter debate when Nomar was in his prime. I was a huge No-Mahhh! fan, and swore he was better than Jeter. Well, he may have been close for a few seasons but Jeter has been great for 13 years and continues to be a clutch player. Another guy who doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
Those 2 guys are just amazing players. Class acts all around.
Re: The Phillies get to take on THE YANKEES!!
I hated Jeter too, esp his first few/several years. And I bought into the Nomar vs Jeter hype. Though I do think Nomar was close for a couple years, but man whatever happened to him? Did he fall off the face of the earth in 03 or something?! Was he much older than Jeter, I figured they were about the same age.
I guess some people we show "tough love" to, and make them earn it.
Re: The Phillies get to take on THE YANKEES!!
I'm soft on the Yankees winning, because I like Girardi...
But don't do it again next year. The Yankees winning every so often is okay, same with the Red Sox, but it's very easy to OD on those teams with the media's love affair with them.
Like no other team exists in baseball outside of BOS & NYC.
