Re: PC or Mac? Why?
Out of curiosity, show us your system specs.
have you ever heard of backing up or cleaning out the PC? defrag it once in a while especially after you install or delete somethign major?
Yeah, but I've since forgotten about that.

The NTFS' metadata and the onboard cache on modern-day hard drives were made precisely to alleviate the effects of file fragmentation, yet it still exists as a potent force despite all the hype, apparently.
anyway at the end of the day...AutoCAD makes my world go around and Autodesk doesnt support Mac so the remaining choices for me are pretty simple
Yup.

Re: PC or Mac? Why?
Needs more RAM Neemo, needs more RAM.
When you use a computer you often store files and then delete them. When you first use a compter this is no problem because the data keeps been added to the hard drive. Eventually it gets to the end and has no more space, even though u've deleted files and made space. What you've actually done is deleted that space and so it now fits any new files into those spaces left. What ends up happening when installing programs is you have lots of pieces of data stored everywhere on the harddrive (physicially, not when your looking at the data on the computer). Defragging moves around all the data and puts related pieces of data physically closer together on the harddrive.
Best analagy for it I have is say you have a pie, and you cut a slice out, then you cut another slice out but not next to where that last slice was just randomly somewhere else in the pie. You now have these gaps and that's not efficient. So to make it just one gap you move the now two big pieces of pie, closer together.
Now back to defragging it basically gives you faster access to the data because it makes it easier for the computer to read the data.

one of many things I dont miss in windows, defragging..sloppy fuckin ntfs filesystem
Re: PC or Mac? Why?
I went back to Best Buy today. I messed around with the Mac a little bit more and then looked at PC's. I'm now leaning more toward the PC's because I figure I will need them for most jobs. I can't afford to get rusty when it comes to windows. Also for the same price as the Macbook pro I was looking at, I can get a mind blowing PC. Check this one out, I may go pick it up tomorrow.

Check it out guys and let me know what you think. The specs are utterly badass, but at this point I'm not quite sure if a 17 inch is too big to carry around or not.
One thing that I really like on the MacBooks though is their multitouch trackpads...way to cool, two fingers to scroll, you can push the whole thing in, its a shame windows doesnt have an equivalent.
Re: PC or Mac? Why?
You know what annoys me about Microsoft's products? The fact that they have indoctrinated people into believing the current state of software quality is acceptable or normal even.
Found a bug? Good on ya, we'll release a patch "soon".
What, got a virus? Ooh, you should've been more careful then, shouldn't ya?
What do you mean, you're receiving spam e-mails? Of course you are, we sold your e-mail addresses to penis enlargement firms, didn't you know?
Did you try turning it on and off again? No no, it does that some times, you just need to reboot. Just like your TV, Radio, Mobile Phone, Car, Central Heating system, and so forth, right?
What? You thought you could just buy Windows, install it and be up and running? You idiot! What about anti-spyware programs, virus scanners and firewalls? Yes, of course you need to buy those too, and get subscriptions to them, you silly person!
Yes, we know it slows down after a while, but have you tried defragging? Yes, it does take hours to finish, but there's just no other way. What? Your friend has a Mac which doesn't slow down and there's not even a program to defrag it? Now those are just tall tales boy, stop spreading those lies! No no no, this hasn't been possible since 2001, you're dreaming.
So you want to open your text document with something else than Microsoft Word? Why?? We didn't know there was anything else out there, sorry...
I hate it when people go "Haven't you heard of defragging, anti-virus programs, anti-spyware programs, rebooting, installing newer drivers, and all that crap?". Yes I have, and they're the main reasons why I choose Linux and OSX above Windows.

The one true problem with Apple: the price of their hardware. It's not that it's really overpriced, it's just that I don't want to pay for the aluminum finish, the super flat keyboard, the outrageous displays, the magnet locking connectors, etc...
I chose to bypass that by building me a PC to their specs from off-the-shelf parts and installing the OS myself. If you don't like building a bespoke PC from parts, you can turn to either psystar in the US (and I presume all of North America) or PearC in Europe to buy a ready-made system compatible with OSX or with OSX pre-installed.

its not like it costs anything or really takes any time to do any of that stuff though..its jsut part of doing business..i havent updated drivers iin a while and i havent defragged in a while either...the antivirus and antispyware stuff i mentioned is all free and as for the spam emails...thats the first i heard someone blam spam emails on PC's ... i didnt realize you dont get spam or popups on a mac
it kills me when max users say that macs are a godsend...when you and i both know that mac has its issues as well...technology is technology...nothing ever works 100% all the time, sometimes you gotta fuck around...it'd be like driving your car for a year without a single oil change...eventually you gotta do some maintenance

You should defrag on Mac and Linux as well. Defragging isn't some Windows only thing. It's general computing.
Also the arguments I hear about Windows running too many secondary processes etc...UNINSTALL SOME SHIT THEN. Stop programs from booting at launch, etc. That's not a Windows problem, that's you being unable to mantain and use something.
Someone used a car analogy, that is very good. If you mantain a car properly it will run for years, if you don't and you don't know what your doing odds are you'll do soemthing stupid and break it constantly.
If your wanting to just browse the net, check emails, put songs on your iPod etc. Get shafted by Steve Jobs and pay an extortionate ammount of cash. You want to do anything else that's at least a bit useful, get a PC or Linux. Ubuntu is probably the most user-friendly Linux OS and Fedora isn't bad either. I reccomend having a PC and dual-booting Windows and Linux. My current setup is Windows 7 and Ubuntu.
