Re: PC or Mac? Why?
Mac OSX kicks the hell out of Windows. Much better security against viruses while having far less "freeze ups" and crashes. Unlike Windows computers, they do not slow down over time. However, Mac is not without its problems. I bought my Macbook in summer 2007. The hard drive crashed in the spring of 2008, just a month before I was to graduate from college. I had to go back and redo a bunch of work for a law class. It sucked big time. It was pretty much two semesters of work that I had to do over. On top of the hard drive crash, my battery charger quit charging the computer after around a year of owning it. So now I have to have it plugged in or it won't work. I refuse to buy a new charger from Apple because they charge $80 and they have HORRIBLE customer reviews on their website:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA538 … TA4NDE2NDY
Over 1000 reviews and the average rating is 2 out of 5. Lots of complaints about the charger melting the chord and so forth. Sounds dangerous as hell...and they charge $80 for this piece of shit! Did I mention that you cannot buy a 3rd party charger for Mac?

why get a mac to use windows based programing? seems an oxymoron
Because while Macs are much easier to use and do a lot of things better than PCs can, business and even just sharing things with friends and family requires using the basic programs. The widespread use of Microsoft Office makes using Word a necessity, even if there are Apple softwares that are better for word processing.
Re: PC or Mac? Why?
Fair enough points, some people will just prefer the Windows way above the Mac way I guess. I'll probably never understand why
And then when it comes down to using programs like Full Tilt Poker on both Mac and Windows, the Windows version is light and fast while it feels clunky on OSX 10.5... Google Chrome isn't on Mac OSX yet... I prefer AIM to iChat... WMP to Quicktime... etc.
The only thing I like more on OSX is itunes and I hardly use it anyways.
Never used full tilt poker, so won't comment on that one.
Chrome for Mac can be found here: http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/snap … me-mac.zip
I agree about Quicktime, but it had a major overhaul in OSX 10.6 that brings it into the 21st century. Not that I'll ever use it, VLC is my media player of choice. I absolutely HATE WMP... .
How about just using AIM's official client for Mac? http://download.aim.com/client/mac
As for iTunes, well that's available for Windows, so you can probably keep on using that if you like as well...

Re: PC or Mac? Why?
I can't believe anyone would actually use either AIM or iChat. Trillian for Windows and Adium for Mac are both a lot better.
Re: PC or Mac? Why?
Google Chrome on the mac is a developer release... not finished product!
AIM's mac client is also awful. It doesn't have an "offline" group like AIM on windows, so all my groups are cluttered with a bunch of people who aren't even online. tejastech08 I agree iChat isn't that great and I've used Adium before which was alright.. but......
Why use a program on OSX where I feel like my teeth are being pulled out moving the mouse around when I could just use Windows which has everything I use anyways and preforms better in my opinion?
As for WMP, VLC, Quicktime.... I use VLC also on both Mac and Windows, but when it comes to streaming things, until recently, Mac VLC had problems with online streaming that the Windows version didn't. I would always have to leave my room and go to the living room (where my PC is) to watch live streams because Macs VLC would freeze the live stream often times for no apparent reason. With the newest VLC build it doesnt seem to be a problem anymore, but meh, again.. just prefer windows . WMP10 is also not bad and streams come in nicer occasionally than they do on VLC so I have to use it on occasion. Quicktime on the other hand has trouble recognizing even basic mms:// streams and so if VLC fails there's no alternative.
Then there's programs like PPStream, TVants, iCCup launcher, Pokertracker 3 that I use that have no real mac alternative.
Overall OSX just seems clunky and slow to me and Windows XP feels light, quick and easy for me. Personal choice I guess, not going to change anyone's opinions.
Re: PC or Mac? Why?
I went to a Best Buy today and spent some quality time with the MacBook Pro 13. Its my first real experience messing around with Mac OS X. Seems like a pretty decent system and the employee was REALLY helpful. I'm still not sure though. The only thing the PC got going for it in my book is the price difference. I can get a completely badass laptop for the same price I can get a middle of the road Macbook pro. But the Mac seems so much nicer, software wise. Hardly no viruses, a cleaner UI, and quite a few other things, I was very impressed.

After the past few days, I gotta agree with you.
I got burned on that one too. Comcast promotes the 'Free Macafee Antivirus', so I thought cool, and let me Norton expire. Less than 6 months later I was badly infected. I was able to clean it out with Malawarebytes Spybot, but I think it was a little too late. I eventually found some dude on Craigslist who blew out my system & reinstalled windows for me for $50. My brother told me to get AVG or Spybot.
