Re: PC or Mac? Why?
Prefer PC so much.
But for basic use if you aren't willing to occasionally virus scan/take care of your computer then mac is fine. Tons of people use them.. all the programs you need for basic stuff is there.. so yeah.
I have both PC and OSX (mac) at my house and am always on the PC
I'm curious though, why? User interface-wise, I find OSX to be leaps and bounds beyond any version of Windows I've used (all but 7, that is).

My belief is if you're into graphic design, or web building, thing s like that, go with a Mac. Anything else, PC is just more convenient. Look into HP's Tommie, I like mine alot. & I've heard AVG is great, another good anti virus is Malawarebytes Spybot. Sped up my computer alot.

Windows 7 is good and if you're careful and don't mess up your PC you should be fine. Get AVG virus protection and set it to do a scan once a day, if it ever finds a problem, deal with it immediately.
Just to clarify, I'm pretty competent when it comes to PC's. I've had one since I was real young and consider myself very proficient with a variety of things. I'm usually the person my family turns to when something is wrong with theirs. Thats why I'm so pissed with Windows. I have McAfee virus scan/firewall/security center installed, it updates itself every day, scans every other, real-time virus scan enabled, and I still didnt know about it till I started getting weird popups and I decided to run a full scan on an off day.
The main reason I've kept a windows PC in the past is because of the games. But now I have a 360 and most windows games come out on that and you don't have to worry about updating your rig every few years (except for new consoles).

I grew up using Mac OS9 and eventually switched to Mac OSX. My first computer was an iMac G3.
When I first started Windows I really enjoyed the feel and look alot more. When I use OSX it feels like my courser is stuck in glue even when I raise the acceleration speed... in general moving around feels inaccurate no matter what mouse I use.
You can read about it here: http://db.tidbits.com/article/8893
And then when it comes down to using programs like Full Tilt Poker on both Mac and Windows, the Windows version is light and fast while it feels clunky on OSX 10.5... Google Chrome isn't on Mac OSX yet... I prefer AIM to iChat... WMP to Quicktime... etc.
The only thing I like more on OSX is itunes and I hardly use it anyways.
So while most people go from Windows to Mac and then think "Wow this feels great!", I grew up with Mac and switched to Windows and think it's much easier/slicker to use. Mac feels clunky to me, has less programs that are useful to me, and "Mac versions" of windows products are usually not as good as their windows counterparts.
